In this book, readers will embark on a journey through the Quranic verses that address scientific topics, such as astronomy, geology, biology, and more. They will learn about the scientific theories and discoveries that have been confirmed by the Quran, as well as the mysteries that continue to baffle researchers. With a deep respect for both science and religion, "The Scientific Miracles in the Quran" presents a compelling case for the harmony between these seemingly disparate fields. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the West's growing involvement in Muslim societies, conflicts, and cultures, its inability to understand or analyze the Islamic world threatens any prospect for East–West rapprochement. Impelled by one thousand years of anti-Muslim ideas and images, the West has failed to engage in any meaningful or productive way with the world of Islam. Formulated in the medieval halls of the Roman Curia and courts of the European Crusaders and perfected in the newsrooms of Fox News and CNN, this anti-Islamic discourse determines what can and cannot be said about Muslims and their religion, trapping the West in a dangerous, dead-end politics that it cannot afford. In Islam Through Western Eyes, Jonathan Lyons unpacks Western habits of thinking and writing about Islam, conducting a careful analysis of the West's grand totalizing narrative across one thousand years of history. He observes the discourse's corrosive effects on the social sciences, including sociology, politics, philosophy, theology, international relations, security studies, and human rights scholarship. He follows its influence on research, speeches, political strategy, and government policy, preventing the West from responding effectively to its most significant twenty-first-century challenges: the rise of Islamic power, the emergence of religious violence, and the growing tension between established social values and multicultural rights among Muslim immigrant populations. Through the intellectual "archaeology" of Michel Foucault, Lyons reveals the workings of this discourse and its underlying impact on our social, intellectual, and political lives. He then addresses issues of deep concern to Western readers—Islam and modernity, Islam and violence, and Islam and women—and proposes new ways of thinking about the Western relationship to the Islamic world.

And 13. Words Risale-i Nur (Treatise of Light) Training Program This book which is entitled "Qur'an, Modern Science and Philosophy" and which is an explanatory work based on 11th, 12th and 13th Words of Risale-i Nur, comparatively deals with the perspectives of the universe by Qur'an, modern science and philosophy; and the differences of interpretation they develop and the different meanings they make out of the same information they have. When you complete the book, you will have a striking appreciation of the profound differences of the lessons given by the philosophy and science which look at the universe from an ungodly perspective and you will have acquired the most basic and accurate Qur'anic terms in making sense of this universe. In 11. Word: We discover the hidden secret of the creation of man and the universe with the help of a wonderful example (The Story of the Creation of Our Universe) and we invite you to a completely different mental journey and we promise that we will go to places you have never travelled before on this imaginary journey that we will start together. Here are some of the questions we ask: Why are we here, who sent us here, and where do we go from here? Who are we and what is required of us? Why couldn’t the mind find its way on its own, alone? What is the true form of the universe and the cause of man's creation? From which perspective should we look at the universe in order to discover the truth about it? What do we see if we look at the world as a new visitor? Why are we in need of the creatures/created things which come into existence by chance? Why is the nature, existing in the world and in the universe, so beautiful? In 12. Word: We compare Qur'an, philosophy, and modern science in terms of understanding and giving meaning to the universe. Thus, the profound difference between, on the one hand Qur'an and on the other hand, philosophy and science, which look at the universe from an irreligious perspective, emerges strikingly. Our "A Gift Pack", however, will take you to another world, with the strength of its logical rules and poeticalness of its literary depictions. In 13. Word: Right after a pleasant and short trip of history of science, we begin a fictional journey in "Cosmic Calendar" and we search for the answers of the following questions: "What should one expect to get from a product made in the name of science? How should its value be assessed?" and we witness that those who could fine what the world "fine-tuning" means and who appreciate it, will graduate from the "Academy of Universe" with a high degree of success. In this way, having given an exemplary lesson about the fact that religion and sciences of Qur'an and Philosophy produce products, in the name of science, that are quite different from each other., it is proved with a striking determination that Qur'an has such a high degree of scientificness compared to positive sciences. We would like you to accompany us in this imaginary and mental journey of discovery. There is only one fixed price for a ticket of the Journey: A strong sense of wonder in the search for truth. This work is a part of our basic/source book called “A Journey of Discovery for an Extraordinary Treasure: Risale-i Nur (The Treatise of Light) Training Program” upon which our “Journeys of Discovery, Risale-i Nur Training Program” is constructed and it is “The comparison of Qur'an, Philosophy and Modern Science in Understanding the Secret of the Universe”, which is the fourth discovery of the five discovery, dealt with in the first main part of that book, which is called “Discovering the Value of the Treasure of Faith”. We strongly suggest and present this book to those who regularly read Risale-i Nur as well as to those who want to get some information for the first time. The epilogue of our book which is entitled “Your Journey Just Begins Now!” is also included in this work as it contains emotional, striking and impressive points coming sincerely from the deepest parts of our hearts about the reading of Risale-i Nur and attendance to the Risale-i Nur Lectures. BOOK INDEX I- The comparison of Qur'an, Philosophy and Modern Science in Understanding the Secret of the Universe * The Story of the Creation of Our Universe (11. Word): We discover the hidden secret of the creation of man and the universe with the help of a wonderful example. * A Gift Package (12. Thus, the profound difference between, on the one hand Qur'an and on the other hand, philosophy and science, which look at the universe from an irreligious perspective, emerges strikingly. * To Graduate from the Academy of Universe (A chapter taken from the Thirteenth Word): Having given an exemplary lesson about the fact that religion and sciences of Qur'an and Philosophy produce products, in the name of science, that are quite different from each other., it is proved with a striking determination that Qur'an has such a high degree of scientificness compared to positive sciences. Book excerpt: A myth-shattering view of the Islamic world's myriad scientific innovations and the role they played in sparking the European Renaissance. Many of the innovations that we think of as hallmarks of Western science had their roots in the Arab world of the middle ages, a period when much of Western Christendom lay in intellectual darkness. Jim al- Khalili, a leading British-Iraqi physicist, resurrects this lost chapter of history, and given current East-West tensions, his book could not be timelier. With transporting detail, al-Khalili places readers in the hothouses of the Arabic Enlightenment, shows how they led to Europe's cultural awakening, and poses the question: Why did the Islamic world enter its own dark age after such a dazzling flowering?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Justice stands as the crown jewel of the Islamic moral universe. Qur'anic referenes to justice are more frequent than those to the prophets of Islam. It is justice, rather than jihad or "holy war"' of the Western imagination, that defines the centrist Islam of the Qur'an. Justice in midstream Islam is at once "one and many," to borrow a formulation of Islamic mystics. Justice is one as the core Islamic value and many in the particular struggles for social justice it inspires. Abu Dharr al Ghifari, the beloved 7th century companion of the Prophet Muhammd, authored several hundred prophetic traditions and fought for the rights of the poor. Abu Dharr modeled the combination of scholarship and activism that characterizes Islamic intellectuals. Struggles for social justice waged in Egypt, Turkey, Iran, and beyond evoke the Prophet's companion as exemplar. The excesses of extremist thinking and the blinding glare of the violence it fosters may threaten to overwhelm the faith. Invariably, however, Islamic intellectuals step forward to restore moderation. Centrist Islam today is winning adherents at a pace that outstrips all other faiths. Individual chapters focus on the contributors to this Awakening, including the Egyptian Shaikh Muhammad al Ghazalli, the Turkish scholar Sa'id Nursi, the Lebanese Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Fadlallah, the martyred Iraqi Grand Ayatollah Baqir al Sadra, the Iranian intellectual Ali Sheriati, and the American athlete and Muslim convert Muhammad Ali. Their stories explain how an awakened Islam has today become a global phenomenon"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Knowing the Unknown Through Science and Sufism touches on the creation of the universe, starting from the Big Bang and following through the phases of evolution until the present day, discussing the appearance of life on earth after billions of years of turmoil. It looks at the early beginnings of religion in prehistoric societies and how this progressed into organized religion as we know it today. This book explores the similarities between the scientific concepts related to evolutionary change and the concepts that Sufis have highlighted with reference to verses of the Quran. It discusses the history of mankind and the journey through theological, philosophical, and spiritual phases. The book attempts to expand on the concept of time in relation to evolution and the difficulty in defining time and why the Quran mentions different times in different verses and also on an understanding of time in the present day. The subject matter is vast, but this book has attempted to address it in a more easily accessible way.

Book excerpt: "In Destiny Disrupted, Ansary tells the rich story of world history as it looks from that other perspective. With the evolution of the Muslim community at the center, his story moves from the lifetime of Mohammed through a succession of far-flung empires, to the struggles and ideological movements that have wracked the Muslim world in recent centuries, to the tangle of modern conflicts that culminated in the events of 9/11. He introduces the key people, events, ideas, legends, religious disputes, and turning points of world history from that other perspective, recounting not only what happened but how those events were interpreted and understood in that framework. He clarifies why these two great civilizations grew up oblivious to each other, what happened when they intersected, and how the Islamic world was affected by its slow recognition that Europe - a place it long perceived as primitive - had somehow hijacked destiny."--BOOK JACKET.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unprecedented in its range - extending from Venice to the New World and from the Holy Roman Empire to the Ottoman Empire - this collection probes the place that the Ottoman Turks occupied in the Western imaginaire, and the ways in which this occupation expressed itself in the visual arts. Individual essays in this volume examine specific images or groups of images, problematizing the 'truths' they present and analyzing the contexts that shape the presentation of Ottoman or Islamic subject matter in European art. The contributors trace the transmission of early modern images and representations across national boundaries and across centuries to show how, through processes of translation that often involved multiple stages, the figure of the Turk (and by extension that of the Muslim) underwent a multiplicity of interpretations that reflect and reveal Western needs, anxieties and agendas. The essays reveal how anachronisms and inaccuracies mingled with careful detail to produce a "Turk," a figure which became a presence to reckon with in painting, sculpture, tapestry and printmaking.
