Book Synopsis Drying and Roasting of Cocoa and Coffee by : Ching Lik Hii
Download or read book Drying and Roasting of Cocoa and Coffee written by Ching Lik Hii and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first practical book dedicated to the fundamental and application aspects of two major unit operations in cocoa and coffee processing, namely drying and roasting. The drying and roasting of cocoa and coffee beans play critical roles in governing the formation of flavor precursors in the early stages and also the development of flavor and aroma in the later stages during processing. Hence, qualities of the finished chocolates and coffee powder products are affected greatly by the dried and roasted beans produced. Drying and Roasting of Cocoa and Coffee covers key topics areas ranging from post-harvest processing, equipment selection, physical and chemical changes during processing, flavor development, grading and dried product quality. The book consists of two parts with topics dedicated to the drying/roasting aspects of cocoa and coffee, respectively. Features Provides a comprehensive review on flavor development during cocoa/coffee processing Discusses the impact of processing parameters on cocoa/coffee quality Presents the new trends in drying/roasting techniques and novel technology Examines the concept of coffee quality in light of both paradigms: the traditional coffee and the specialty coffee grading systems No prior knowledge of cocoa and coffee processing is required to benefit from this book, which is written for a variety of readers. It is suitable for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and industrial practitioners/consultants from various domains in the food and beverage industries.

Book Synopsis Doing the Impossible by : Arthur L. Slotkin
Download or read book Doing the Impossible written by Arthur L. Slotkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apollo was known for its engineering triumphs, but its success also came from a disciplined management style. This excellent account of one of the most important personalities in early American human spaceflight history describes for the first time how George E. Mueller, the system manager of the human spaceflight program of the 1960s, applied the SPO methodology and other special considerations such as “all-up”testing, resulting in the success of the Apollo Program. Wernher von Braun and others did not readily accept such testing or Mueller’s approach to system management, but later acknowledged that without them NASA would not have landed astronauts on the Moon by 1969. While Apollo remained Mueller’s priority, from his earliest days at the agency, he promoted a robust post-Apollo Program which resulted in Skylab, the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station. As a result of these efforts, Mueller earned the sobriquet: “the father of the space shuttle.” Following his success at NASA, Mueller returned to industry. Although he did not play a leading role in human spaceflight again, in 2011 the National Air and Space Museum awarded him their lifetime achievement trophy for his contributions. Following the contributions of George E. Mueller, in this unique book Arthur L. Slotkin answers such questions as: exactly how did the methods developed for use in the Air Force ballistic missile programs get modified and used in the Apollo Program? How did George E. Mueller, with the help of others, manage the Apollo Program? How did NASA centers, coming from federal agencies with cultures of their own, adapt to the new structured approach imposed from Washington? George E. Mueller is the ideal central character for this book. He was instrumental in the creation of Apollo extension systems leading to Apollo, the Shuttle, and today’s ISS and thus was a pivotal figure in early American human spaceflight history.
Book Synopsis Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau by : Peter Karibe Mendy
Download or read book Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau written by Peter Karibe Mendy and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guinea-Bissau is a small country in West Africa, and yet it managed to wrest its independence from Portugal back in 1973, at the cost of a long and bitter struggle against seemingly implacable odds. This was a time to be proud of, and there was also a moment about two decades ago, when it looked like a trendsetter for democracy. Since then things have gone seriously wrong, with a collapsing infrastructure, a dilapidated economy and a political stage prone to military coups d’etats. This fourth edition of Historical Dictionary of Guinea-Bissau tells the long and sometimes unpleasant story. However, like all the country historical dictionaries, it tells it several times and in several ways. First, the chronology traces the history of what became Guinea-Bissau, and this over a period of centuries and not just decades. Then the introduction recounts that history again, providing more insight and understanding, and conveys a good idea of how things are going now. The details follow in the dictionary section with entries on important persons, places, institutions, and events among other things. And the bibliography points to further reading.
Download or read book Corrosion written by L L Shreir and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion, Volume 1: Metal/Environment Reactions is concerned with the subject of corrosion, with emphasis on the control of the environmental interactions of metals and alloys used as materials of construction. Corrosion is treated as a synthesis of corrosion science and corrosion engineering. This volume is comprised of nine chapters; the first of which provides an overview of the principles of corrosion and oxidation, with emphasis on the electrochemical mechanism of corrosion and how the kinetics of cathodic and anodic partial reactions control the rate of overall corrosion reaction. Attention then turns to the effects of environmental factors such as concentration, velocity, and temperature based on the assumption that either the anodic or cathodic reaction, but not both, is rate-controlling. The corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, as well as rarer and noble metals, is considered. The reader is also introduced to high-temperature corrosion and mechanical factors that affect corrosion. This book concludes with topics of electrochemistry and metallurgy relevant to corrosion, including the nature of the electrified interface between the metal and the solution; charge transfer across the interface under equilibrium and non-equilibrium conditions; overpotential and the rate of an electrode reaction; and the hydrogen evolution reaction and hydrogen absorption by ferrous alloys. This book will be of value to students as well as workers and engineers in the field of corrosion.
