Book Synopsis Structural Aspects Of Quantum Field Theory (In 2 Volumes) by : Gerhard Grensing

This book was released on 2013-05-21 with total page 1596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The book is primarily addressed to physicists. Nevertheless, as numerous examples are known in which exploration of the land where physics and mathematics overlap (and which quantum field theory definitely belongs to) resulted in important developments in mathematics, many mathematicians may also find this book interesting and even inspiring.'MathSciNetThis book is devoted to the subject of quantum field theory. It is divided into two volumes. The first can serve as a textbook on the main techniques and results of quantum field theory, while the second treats more recent developments, in particular the subject of quantum groups and noncommutative geometry, and their interrelation. The first volume is directed at graduate students who want to learn the basic facts about quantum field theory. It begins with a gentle introduction to classical field theory, including the standard model of particle physics, general relativity, and also supergravity. The transition to quantized fields is performed with path integral techniques, by means of which the one-loop renormalization of a self-interacting scalar quantum field, of quantum electrodynamics, and the asymptotic freedom of quantum chromodynamics is treated. In the last part of the first volume, the application of path integral methods to systems of quantum statistical mechanics is covered. The book ends with a rather detailed investigation of the fractional quantum Hall effect, and gives a stringent derivation of Laughlin's trial ground state wave function as an exact ground state. The second volume covers more advanced themes. In particular Connes' noncommutative geometry is dealt with in some considerable detail; the presentation attempts to acquaint the physics community with the substantial achievements that have been reached by means of this approach towards the understanding of the elusive Higgs particle. The book also covers the subject of quantum groups and its application to the fractional quantum Hall effect, as it is for this paradigmatic physical system that noncommutative geometry and quantum groups can be brought together.
Book Synopsis Quantum Isometry Groups by : Debashish Goswami
Download or read book Quantum Isometry Groups written by Debashish Goswami and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-05 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an up-to-date overview of the recently proposed theory of quantum isometry groups. Written by the founders, it is the first book to present the research on the “quantum isometry group”, highlighting the interaction of noncommutative geometry and quantum groups, which is a noncommutative generalization of the notion of group of isometry of a classical Riemannian manifold. The motivation for this generalization is the importance of isometry groups in both mathematics and physics. The framework consists of Alain Connes’ “noncommutative geometry” and the operator-algebraic theory of “quantum groups”. The authors prove the existence of quantum isometry group for noncommutative manifolds given by spectral triples under mild conditions and discuss a number of methods for computing them. One of the most striking and profound findings is the non-existence of non-classical quantum isometry groups for arbitrary classical connected compact manifolds and, by using this, the authors explicitly describe quantum isometry groups of most of the noncommutative manifolds studied in the literature. Some physical motivations and possible applications are also discussed.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Quantum Groups by : Masud Chaichian
Download or read book Introduction to Quantum Groups written by Masud Chaichian and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past decade there has been an extemely rapid growth in the interest and development of quantum group theory. This book provides students and researchers with a practical introduction to the principal ideas of quantum groups theory and its applications to quantum mechanical and modern field theory problems. It begins with a review of, and introduction to, the mathematical aspects of quantum deformation of classical groups, Lie algebras and related objects (algebras of functions on spaces, differential and integral calculi). In the subsequent chapters the richness of mathematical structure and power of the quantum deformation methods and non-commutative geometry is illustrated on the different examples starting from the simplest quantum mechanical system — harmonic oscillator and ending with actual problems of modern field theory, such as the attempts to construct lattice-like regularization consistent with space-time Poincaré symmetry and to incorporate Higgs fields in the general geometrical frame of gauge theories. Graduate students and researchers studying the problems of quantum field theory, particle physics and mathematical aspects of quantum symmetries will find the book of interest.

Book Synopsis Quantum Groups and Noncommutative Geometry by : Yuri I. Manin
Download or read book Quantum Groups and Noncommutative Geometry written by Yuri I. Manin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-10-11 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook presents the second edition of Manin's celebrated 1988 Montreal lectures, which influenced a new generation of researchers in algebra to take up the study of Hopf algebras and quantum groups. In this expanded write-up of those lectures, Manin systematically develops an approach to quantum groups as symmetry objects in noncommutative geometry in contrast to the more deformation-oriented approach due to Faddeev, Drinfeld, and others. This new edition contains an extra chapter by Theo Raedschelders and Michel Van den Bergh, surveying recent work that focuses on the representation theory of a number of bi- and Hopf algebras that were first introduced in Manin's lectures, and have since gained a lot of attention. Emphasis is placed on the Tannaka–Krein formalism, which further strengthens Manin's approach to symmetry and moduli-objects in noncommutative geometry.

Book Synopsis Quantization, Geometry and Noncommutative Structures in Mathematics and Physics by : Alexander Cardona
Download or read book Quantization, Geometry and Noncommutative Structures in Mathematics and Physics written by Alexander Cardona and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents various ongoing approaches to the vast topic of quantization, which is the process of forming a quantum mechanical system starting from a classical one, and discusses their numerous fruitful interactions with mathematics. The opening chapter introduces the various forms of quantization and their interactions with each other and with mathematics.A first approach to quantization, called deformation quantization, consists of viewing the Planck constant as a small parameter. This approach provides a deformation of the structure of the algebra of classical observables rather than a radical change in the nature of the observables. When symmetries come into play, deformation quantization needs to be merged with group actions, which is presented in chapter 2, by Simone Gutt. The noncommutativity arising from quantization is the main concern of noncommutative geometry. Allowing for the presence of symmetries requires working with principal fiber bundles in a non-commutative setup, where Hopf algebras appear naturally. This is the topic of chapter 3, by Christian Kassel. Nichols algebras, a special type of Hopf algebras, are the subject of chapter 4, by Nicolás Andruskiewitsch. The purely algebraic approaches given in the previous chapters do not take the geometry of space-time into account. For this purpose a special treatment using a more geometric point of view is required. An approach to field quantization on curved space-time, with applications to cosmology, is presented in chapter 5 in an account of the lectures of Abhay Ashtekar that brings a complementary point of view to non-commutativity.An alternative quantization procedure is known under the name of string theory. In chapter 6 its supersymmetric version is presented. Superstrings have drawn the attention of many mathematicians, due to its various fruitful interactions with algebraic geometry, some of which are described here. The remaining chapters discuss further topics, as the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism and direct products of spectral triples. This volume addresses both physicists and mathematicians and serves as an introduction to ongoing research in very active areas of mathematics and physics at the border line between geometry, topology, algebra and quantum field theory.
Book Synopsis Quantum Groups and Their Applications in Physics by : Leonardo Castellani
Download or read book Quantum Groups and Their Applications in Physics written by Leonardo Castellani and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 950 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on quantum groups, i.e., continuous deformations of Lie groups, and their applications in physics. These algebraic structures have been studied in the last decade by a growing number of mathematicians and physicists, and are found to underlie many physical systems of interest. They do provide, in fact, a sort of common algebraic ground for seemingly very different physical problems. As it has happened for supersymmetry, the q-group symmetries are bound to play a vital role in physics, even in fundamental theories like gauge theory or gravity. In fact q-symmetry can be considered itself as a generalization of supersymmetry, evident in the q-commutator formulation. The hope that field theories on q-groups are naturally reguralized begins to appear founded, and opens new perspectives for quantum gravity. The topics covered in this book include: conformal field theories and quantum groups, gauge theories of quantum groups, anyons, differential calculus on quantum groups and non-commutative geometry, poisson algebras, 2-dimensional statistical models, (2+1) quantum gravity, quantum groups and lattice physics, inhomogeneous q-groups, q-Poincaregroup and deformed gravity and gauging of W-algebras.
Book Synopsis Quantum and Non-Commutative Analysis by : Huzihiro Araki
Download or read book Quantum and Non-Commutative Analysis written by Huzihiro Araki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past decade, there has been a sudden and vigorous development in a number of research areas in mathematics and mathematical physics, such as theory of operator algebras, knot theory, theory of manifolds, infinite dimensional Lie algebras and quantum groups (as a new topics), etc. on the side of mathematics, quantum field theory and statistical mechanics on the side of mathematical physics. The new development is characterized by very strong relations and interactions between different research areas which were hitherto considered as remotely related. Focussing on these new developments in mathematical physics and theory of operator algebras, the International Oji Seminar on Quantum Analysis was held at the Kansai Seminar House, Kyoto, JAPAN during June 25-29, 1992 by a generous sponsorship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Fujihara Foundation of Science, as a workshop of relatively small number of (about 50) invited participants. This was followed by an open Symposium at RIMS, described below by its organizer, A. Kishimoto. The Oji Seminar began with two key-note addresses, one by V.F.R. Jones on Spin Models in Knot Theory and von Neumann Algebras and by A. Jaffe on Where Quantum Field Theory Has Led. Subsequently topics such as Subfactors and Sector Theory, Solvable Models of Statistical Mechanics, Quantum Field Theory, Quantum Groups, and Renormalization Group Ap proach, are discussed. Towards the end, a panel discussion on Where Should Quantum Analysis Go? was held.

Book Synopsis Noncommutative Geometry and Number Theory by : Caterina Consani
Download or read book Noncommutative Geometry and Number Theory written by Caterina Consani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, number theory and arithmetic geometry have been enriched by new techniques from noncommutative geometry, operator algebras, dynamical systems, and K-Theory. This volume collects and presents up-to-date research topics in arithmetic and noncommutative geometry and ideas from physics that point to possible new connections between the fields of number theory, algebraic geometry and noncommutative geometry. The articles collected in this volume present new noncommutative geometry perspectives on classical topics of number theory and arithmetic such as modular forms, class field theory, the theory of reductive p-adic groups, Shimura varieties, the local L-factors of arithmetic varieties. They also show how arithmetic appears naturally in noncommutative geometry and in physics, in the residues of Feynman graphs, in the properties of noncommutative tori, and in the quantum Hall effect.
Book Synopsis Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics by : Jürgen Fuchs
Download or read book Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics written by Jürgen Fuchs and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics provides a language in which to formulate the laws that govern nature. It is a language proven to be both powerful and effective. In the quest for a deeper understanding of the fundamental laws of physics, one is led to theories that are increasingly difficult to put to the test. In recent years, many novel questions have emerged in mathematical physics, particularly in quantum field theory. Indeed, several areas of mathematics have lately become increasingly influentialin physics and, in turn, have become influenced by developments in physics. Over the last two decades, interactions between mathematicians and physicists have increased enormously and have resulted in a fruitful cross-fertilization of the two communities. This volume contains the plenary talks fromthe international symposium on Noncommutative Geometry and Representation Theory in Mathematical Physics held at Karlstad University (Sweden) as a satellite conference to the Fourth European Congress of Mathematics. The scope of the volume is large and its content is relevant to various scientific communities interested in noncommutative geometry and representation theory. It offers a comprehensive view of the state of affairs for these two branches of mathematical physics. The book is suitablefor graduate students and researchers interested in mathematical physics.
