Book Synopsis A Simplified Molecular Model for Studying Vibration-dissociation Coupling in Fluid Flows by : Walter Albert Reinhardt
Download or read book A Simplified Molecular Model for Studying Vibration-dissociation Coupling in Fluid Flows written by Walter Albert Reinhardt and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simplified mathematical model is derived that is useful for studying the effects of vibration-dissociation coupling in fluid flows. The derivation is based on energy-moment procedure for simplifying the master equations. To obtain the model equations it is assumed that the vibrational energy can be approximated by the introduction of two vibrational temperatures. The effects of molecular anharmonicity are also accounted for in an approximate manner. The parameters contained within the equations are evaluated by making comparisons with experimental data. It is shown that the model contains the minimum required structure allowing favorable agreement with existing experimental data. Numerical solutions are given for the quasi-steady zone behind a normal shock wave, for the complete structure of a shock wave, and for nozzle flow. The results provide the appropriate pre-exponential temperature dependence of the effective dissociation rate, yield and induction time before dissociation is observed, and, in the case of expanding flow, yield one-fourth less effective relaxation time than the Landau-Teller theory. The thermodynamic quantities for the vibrational mode (partition function, internal energy, and specific heat) agree accurately with like quantities evaluated from spectroscopic data. By the introduction of appropriate assumptions it is shown that the equations reduce to a form identical to the Marrone-Treanor model except for a "truncation factor". When the vibrational temperatures are not large, the model is identical to that of Landau and Teller. The numerical procedure used to integrate the system of rate and flow equations is also described.

Book Synopsis DOE Simplified by : Mark J. Anderson
Download or read book DOE Simplified written by Mark J. Anderson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a planned approach for determining cause and effect, DOE Simplified: Practical Tools for Effective Experimentation, Third Edition integrates the authors decades of combined experience in providing training, consulting, and computational tools to industrial experimenters. Supplying readers with the statistical means to analyze how numerous variables interact, it is ideal for those seeking breakthroughs in product quality and process efficiency via systematic experimentation.Following in the footsteps of its bestselling predecessors, this edition incorporates a lively approach to learning the fundamentals of the design of experiments (DOE). It lightens up the inherently dry complexities with interesting sidebars and amusing anecdotes. The book explains simple methods for collecting and displaying data and presents comparative experiments for testing hypotheses. Discussing how to block the sources of variation from your analysis, it looks at two-level factorial designs and covers analysis of variance. It also details a four-step planning process for designing and executing experiments that takes statistical power into consideration. This edition includes a major revision of the software that accompanies the book (via download) and sets the stage for introducing experiment designs where the randomization of one or more hard-to-change factors can be restricted. Along these lines, it includes a new chapter on split plots and adds coverage of a number of recent developments in the design and analysis of experiments.Readers have access to case studies, problems, practice experiments, a glossary of terms, and a glossary of statistical symbols, as well as a series of dynamic online lectures that cover the first several chapters of the book.
Book Synopsis Multilingual Access and Services for Digital Collections by : Jiangping Chen
Download or read book Multilingual Access and Services for Digital Collections written by Jiangping Chen and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-01-18 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique guide offers you a thorough understanding of multilingual information access (MLIA) and services and related concepts, such as database design, information retrieval, machine translation, and natural language processing. Written for digital library developers, library and information science graduate students, and information professionals serving international information users, this book defines multilingual information access (MLIA) and discusses the importance of enabling international users to access digital collections. Based on a systematic review of the research and development carried out on cross-language information retrieval, machine translation, and case studies of current multilingual digital libraries, the author clearly explains what you need to know about technologies for building MLIA function for digital collections. The book leads you through an examination of Internet language services and tools that are useful for developing multilingual digital libraries and for assisting international users in accessing digital resources. Content is further clarified by two research projects that are presented to demonstrate the application of technologies used to build MLIA functions and multilingual user interfaces. The book concludes with possible strategies for using Internet language services and tools to implement MLIA function for digital collections.
Book Synopsis A Simple Non-Euclidean Geometry and Its Physical Basis by : I.M. Yaglom
Download or read book A Simple Non-Euclidean Geometry and Its Physical Basis written by I.M. Yaglom and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many technical and popular accounts, both in Russian and in other languages, of the non-Euclidean geometry of Lobachevsky and Bolyai, a few of which are listed in the Bibliography. This geometry, also called hyperbolic geometry, is part of the required subject matter of many mathematics departments in universities and teachers' colleges-a reflec tion of the view that familiarity with the elements of hyperbolic geometry is a useful part of the background of future high school teachers. Much attention is paid to hyperbolic geometry by school mathematics clubs. Some mathematicians and educators concerned with reform of the high school curriculum believe that the required part of the curriculum should include elements of hyperbolic geometry, and that the optional part of the curriculum should include a topic related to hyperbolic geometry. I The broad interest in hyperbolic geometry is not surprising. This interest has little to do with mathematical and scientific applications of hyperbolic geometry, since the applications (for instance, in the theory of automorphic functions) are rather specialized, and are likely to be encountered by very few of the many students who conscientiously study (and then present to examiners) the definition of parallels in hyperbolic geometry and the special features of configurations of lines in the hyperbolic plane. The principal reason for the interest in hyperbolic geometry is the important fact of "non-uniqueness" of geometry; of the existence of many geometric systems.
Book Synopsis Material Substructures in Complex Bodies by : Gianfranco Capriz
Download or read book Material Substructures in Complex Bodies written by Gianfranco Capriz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-05-24 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stringent industrial requirements of sophisticated performances and of circumstantial control for micro-devices or nanotechnology manufactures, and other types of machinery at multiple scales, can be satisfied often only by resort to or allowance for complex materials. The adjective 'complex' beckons to the fact that the substructure influences gross mechanical behaviour in a prominent way and interactions due to substructural changes are represented directly. The description of the mechanical behaviour of complex bodies proposes a wide class of challenging problems from macroscopic-to-nano-world. The collection of chapters composing this book aims to explore some aspects of these problems, proposing also new matter of discussion together with specific solutions. Contributors are Carlo Cercignani, Gianfranco Capriz, Pierre Degond, Antonio Fasano, Harley T. Johnson, Sukky Jun, Krishna Kannan, Wing Kam Liu, Alberto Mancini, Paolo Maria Mariano, Ingo Müller, Kumbakonan R. Rajagopal, Jan Jerzy Slawianowski. The book can be a useful tool for Scholars and PhD students addressing their research activity toward basic mathematical and physical problems accruing from the mechanics of materials.
