This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume represents the proceedings of the symposium on npyridine Nucleotide-Dependent Dehydrogenases" which was held on the campus of the re cently established University of Konstanz, Germany, from September 15 to 20, 1969. The aim of the symposium was to provide a forum for discussion among the experts interested in the various aspects of pyridine nucleotide-dependent de hydrogenases and the pyridine coenzymes, so as to evaluate the state of the present knowledge and to stimulate further progress in this field. In order to facilitate discussion and personal contact it was necessary to restrict the number of participants to 90 including the invited speakers, who came from fifteen countries (Australia, Austria, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, USA). The printed lectures in this volume differ only in minor respects from those circulated be fore the meeting. In some cases speakers presented new experimen tal material during the symposium which was added as an addendum to the papers. The discussions were not recorded. The participants were requested to provide a written report of what they considered worth including in the published re port. This, together with the answers of the speakers is presented in this vo lume. I whish to thank all the speakers and discussants for their cooperativity in preparing the manuscript. The symposium was sponsored by the International Union of Biochemistry whose President, Professor Theorell, was also present and who was acting as one of the speakers and chairmen.
Book Synopsis The Pyridine Nucleotide Coenzymes by : Johannes Everse
Download or read book The Pyridine Nucleotide Coenzymes written by Johannes Everse and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pyridine Nucleotide Coenzymes provides a comprehensive discussion of the evolution, properties, and reactions of pyridine nucleotide coenzymes. The pyridine nucleotide coenzymes, NAD and NADP, appear to be among the most versatile of molecules with respect to their biological functions. In addition to their well-documented roles in a large number of oxidation-reduction reactions, these coenzymes are involved in many aspects of metabolic regulation. The book begins by tracing the evolution of coenzymes and pyridine nucleotide coenzymes. This is followed by separate chapters that deal with the static and dynamic properties of the pyridine nucleotide coenzymes; chemistry and solution conformation of the pyridine coenzymes; pyridine nucleotide analogs; and the three-dimensional structures of pyridine nucleotide binding enzymes. Subsequent chapters cover the synthesis and characterization of immobilized coenzymes and derivatives and their applications in affinity chromatography and enzyme reactors; the pathways to quinolinate, a major precursor of pyridine nucleotides; the role of pyridine nucleotides in phagocytosis; and non-oxidation-reduction reactions of pyridine nucleotides.

Download or read book The Vitamins written by Gerald F. Combs Jr. and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Vitamins: Fundamental Aspects in Nutrition and Health, Sixth Edition presents both overviews and in-depth discussions of the sources, chemistry, metabolism and functions of these essential nutrients in physiology and health. Sections cover perspectives (history of discovery, general properties and impacts), individual Vitamins (their respective chemistries, metabolism), and their dietary sources and global needs. In addition, the inclusion and interpretation of recent clinical research findings relevant to all vitamins, particularly vitamins A, D, E, K, C, thiamin, folate and vitamin B12 is included, along with an expanded discussion on single-carbon metabolism), implications to neuropathies, and more. - Presents complete information about vitamins in a format useful as both a teaching text and desk reference - Includes coverage of vitamin-related topics not typically found in general nutrition texts (e.g., enteric microbial biosynthesis of vitamins, global prevalence of deficiencies, diagnosing 'silent' asymptomatic vitamin deficiencies, histories of vitamin discoveries) - Contains useful appendices of key reference information (e.g., vitamin requirements of humans and animals, vitamin contents of foods, sources of vitamin information)
Book Synopsis Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects by : Paul F. Cook
Download or read book Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects written by Paul F. Cook and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-09-20 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isotope effects have become one of the most powerful tools available to the enzymologist for probing enzymic mechanisms. Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects presents the basic theory underlying isotope effects, including the latest findings on proton tunneling and coupled atomic notions. Specific theoretical applications are emphasized in regard to the types of information that can be obtained using isotope effects. The book also examines recent theoretical treatments of the product dependence of deuterium isotope effects, multiple isotope effects and isotope effects on intermediate partitioning. Other topics include a complete discussion of methods for measuring isotope effects, including a detailed description of the use of the isotope ratio mass spectrometer to obtain isotope effects, and a review of the literature regarding mechanistic information obtained from isotope effects for individual classes of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. Enzyme Mechanism from Isotope Effects is an excellent reference source for investigators using isotope effects in their research. The book is also valuable for reference libraries and instructors teaching courses in enzyme mechanism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structure and Function of Oxidation–Reduction Enzymes is a collection of papers presented at the Wenner-Gren Symposium held at the Wenner-Gren Center, Stockholm on August 23-27, 1970. It provides important understanding of the structure and function of oxidation-reduction enzymes: iron, flavin, and nicotinamide enzymes. This book discusses the functional differences among varying structures such cytochrome c, haemoglobins, dehydrogenases, flavins, oestrogens, and peroxidases. It concludes by presenting future expectations, including some questions that need to be addressed. This volume will be of great value to those interested in the present-day research on oxidation-reduction enzymes.
