I am very fearful that if the Clarion Ledger has Charlie Engle as a reverend, it has forever lost its reputation for truth and veracity. Furthermore, I want to say that it is, a fact that when we went to arrange the entertainment here, I had the temerity to suggest that we have a hog-calling contest, and nominated Earl Brewer, Marion Reiley, and Chancellor Amis as principal contestants. Chancellor Amis won a hog-calling contest eighty-two years ago last May. Do you know the blue bloods down at Natchez turned thumbs down on that; they would not care, they said, to hear Marion Reiley calling hogs. N ow, ladies and gentlemen, we come to the President's address. I belong to the Association of Life Insurance Counsel. They met In. New York several years ago. Joe Conwell of the Penn Mutual LI fe Insurance Company, the bad boy of the Association, was there. A distinguished member of that Association had a paper just about that size (indicating the President's address). It was not bradded together, and as he read and finished a page, he put that page at the back, whereupon the irrepressible Conwell said, Please, please, when you have read a page, lay it down on the -table so we will know how far you have gotten and how much further you have to go. If you are commiserating with yourself having to listen to only a part of this paper, just think how much of a burden it was on the man who had to write it.
