Download or read book South Coast Saunter written by Rod Long and published by Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie Pu. This book was released on 2007 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One fine day, Rod Long, along with his long-term partner Judy, commenced walking the south coast of England. Unheralded, unfocused and unplanned, the enterprise commenced one sunny Saturday morning ten years ago with a simple eight-mile walk out of Lymington in the New Forest. The next weekend, he continued from where he left off last time. And so it continued. Another fine day (many years later), Rod decided to write up his by now long series of walks into a comprehensive whole. Based on the diary entries he has kept all his life, the project quickly shaped up into what was anything but a conventional travel book. Rather than simply describing the local history, flora and fauna along the way (as would most normally be the case), we are rather given an illuminating insight into how a couple, described by the author as ordinary, unathletic and not especially well-off, could pull off the challenge of walking the whole of the south coast over a three year period in what was essentially just their spare time.

Book excerpt: Walking Home - Clare Balding's unmissable new book of Great British Adventures Clare Balding is on a mission to discover Britain and Ireland. She's conquered over 1,500 miles of footpaths, from the Pennine Way to the South-west Coast Path. As well as blisters and a twisted ankle, she's walked with extraordinary people - botanists, barefooted ramblers, whisky-drinking widowers... In Walking Home she shares these stories and tells of more (mis)adventures with her family and her wayward Tibetan terrier Archie. Along the way there are beguiling diversions and life-changing rambles. Finally, Clare embarks on the most important journey of all - the long walk home.
