Die dringend erforderliche Verbindung psychoanalytischer Denkmodelle untereinander fand zudem ebenso wenig statt wie eine Verbindung zu neuen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen.Der Begriff »Psychosomatik« steht heute oftmals für die klinische Behandlung schwerer Persönlichkeitsstörungen und somatoformer Störungen mit einem meist polipragmatischen multimodalen Vorgehen, die Möglichkeiten psychoanalytischen Verstehens und Therapierens somatischer Erkrankung, beispielsweise der Psychosomatik maligner und immunologischer Erkrankungen, bleiben oftmals ungenutzt; der in der Praxis tätige Psychoanalytiker und Psychotherapeut ist hier oft allein gelassen.Es ist Zeit für die Verbindung und Integration der psychoanalytischen Wissensströmungen und Theoriepositionen in einem anwendbaren Modell und eine psychoanalytische Neupositionierung und Stellungnahme in der Psychosomatik. Der Psychoanalytiker Klaus Plab bietet mit seinem Buch genau diese Zusammenschau.
