Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collection of English books printed before 1801 in the University Library of the Vrije Universiteit at Amsterdam is one of the largest collections of such books outside the English-speaking world, and by far the largest in the Netherlands. The collection numbers 5,600 titles and covers all subjects, but is especially concentrated on (reformed) protestantism in Great Britain, the Netherlands and America, and the exchange of ideas between these countries. The collection of which the existence is practically unknown, contains many rare items from the 16th to the 18th century. It covers the periods of the well-known and widely used bibliographies of English printed books (STC, Wing, and ESTC); in a large number of cases the catalogue entries correct or supplement these bibliographies. The catalogue is aimed both at a general public of bibliographers, literary and book- historians working with books from the STC, Wing and ESTC periods, and at researchers in the Netherlands, Great Britain and elsewhere specialised in church history and the manifold historical and cultural relations between the British Isles and the Low Countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as traditional Irish music is characterized by ornamentations and elaborations on a melodic theme, Ireland, a Bicycle, and a Tin Whistle is full of variations and wanderings on the theme of the trip itself. And just as traditional Irish musicians will follow a sad slow air with a lively foot-tapping reel, Wilson's mood ranges from the nostalgic and reflective to the irreverent and mischievous. If there is a lament in one ear, there is always a song in the other.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has long been a need for a translation of the Judaeo-Christian Bible that did not deliberately mistranslate certain words and sentences for the purpose of concealing that the biblical authors' beliefs were quite different from those of modern Jews, Christians and Muslims. For example, "The LORD" is a falsification of the proper name Yahweh, a god like Zeus or Jupiter. But the most blatant fraud has been the rendering of the Hebrew word allahiym as the male proper name, "God." Allahiym is neither a proper name nor singular nor unisexual. Al means a god. The suffix -ah is a feminine singular inflection, so that allah means "goddess." The suffix -iym is a masculine plural inflection, making allahiym a dual-sex, generic plural, "male and female gods," or, in the common gender, "gods." This translation corrects such falsifications. The teachings of Christ are the seeds; the modern Christendom, with its new life, is the goodly tree which has sprung from them. Book excerpt: Ocean modeler Carl Drews explains the science behind the biblical narrative with diagrams and easy-to-understand language. When Moses stretched out his hand over the yam suf at God's command, a weather event known as wind setdown parted the waters. The crossing site is located in the eastern Nile delta. You can fly over the same spot with Google Earth. Yes, the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt really did happen. This journey of scientific discovery is not a smooth one. Along the way Drews makes an embarrassing mistake in graduate school, discovers an important clue in the University of Colorado library, discovers Open Access publishing, and triggers an angry outburst from a few bloggers. Faith and science are in harmony, and these two disciplines can contribute to each other. The book includes 18 maps, 24 figures, 9 tables, and evidence for the historicity of the Exodus.
