Book Synopsis Peace and Prosperity in an Age of Incivility by : William Eric Davis
Download or read book Peace and Prosperity in an Age of Incivility written by William Eric Davis and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2006 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peace and Prosperity in an Age of Incivility presents a comprehensive theory about peace and prosperity. It asserts that three core political values-liberty, order, and equality- must be allocated by societies through law and policy. This book shows that the optimal allocation is pure balance. Balance of values provides the origin of the "democratic peace," the observation that democracies rarely fight each other and when they do, it is brief, does not escalate, and quickly results in a diplomatic resolution. By building on simple forms of spatial and game theories, this stunning analysis shows that the democratic peace is a "Nash equilibrium," where no player has an incentive to deviate from the solution, given the choices of other "players." Democracy, because it fosters compromise, drives the political values of liberty, order, and equality to intersect in perfect, or at least relative, balance. Maximum peace and prosperity is the consequence of balancing critical values. A nation's level of peace and prosperity, while perhaps not great, will be no greater than when these core values are in balance.
Book Synopsis From Riches to Rags at a Time of Prosperity by : Frederick Zimmerman
Download or read book From Riches to Rags at a Time of Prosperity written by Frederick Zimmerman and published by F & J Zimmerman Co. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the framework of an increasingly troubled world, this manuscript presents a series of essays written over a twenty-year period offering some practical, non-partisan suggestions as to how our country, and other countries like it can pull together to improve the situations of our citizens, our nation, and our communities. The book suggests that the solutions to the problems we face do not fit neatly into any one political camp, but instead require innovation, system redesign, and fair mindedness on the part of both politicians and citizens. Informed world citizens are demanding far more objective analyses of our policies, our actions, and the values we employ in pursuing the policies we do. Should those of us in leadership fail to provide those valuable insights, the world is likely to deprive us of our leadership role. The title, From Riches to Rags at a Time of Prosperity, was purposely chosen. There is still time for us to modify our behavior. But, if we misread or ignore world events, we will be poorer as the time available for improvement is quite finite. The United States is currently the world's largest debtor by a substantial margin. Our prosperity is largely based on the rapid depletion of liquid fossil fuels which are likely to be virtually fully exhausted this century. Our education system is sub-par. Our retirement promises are vastly in excess of what we can afford. Our environment is eroding. Though most US citizens are comparatively prosperous at the moment, we are gradually transitioning to much less prosperous circumstances From Riches to Rags at a Time of Prosperity. The book is divided into eight major parts. The Introduction includes a brief history of some of the earlier writings in the field of management with particular emphasis on our responsibilities as managers. Part Two deals with the economy and what we may have to do to sustain prosperity for the world's citizens. Part Three includes some essays written in response to the euphoria of the stock markets. part Four deals with manufacturing and its role in an integrated society. Part Five discusses the role of business management in a wholesome society along with some suggestions and caveats for the practice of management. Part Six reviews the importance of education and the responsibilities of those of us who are educators. Part Seven deals with a few of the nation's pressing public policy questions. Part Eight closes with a question: Will real leadership emerge?
Book Synopsis The Secret Discipline of Prosperity by : Frederick Guttmann
Download or read book The Secret Discipline of Prosperity written by Frederick Guttmann and published by Frederick Guttmann. This book was released on with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you consider yourself financially free? Do you consider that you have the life you want, you achieve what you have dreamed of, you have acquired what you have wanted, you have gone where you liked and you have fulfilled the expectations and projects that have come to your mind and your heart? If not, then you are not FINANCIALLY FREE, and why aren't you? There is what is correctly called 'Poverty Mentality' or 'Scarcity Mentality', and also the 'Financial Thermostat' (or bar that your mind is not able to exceed), and it is the reason for the lack of abundance manifested in material life. Don't look at this as an idea of greed, as that is not what this book is about. These strategies and "Disciplines" constitute the Construct of Thought that is ignored in the lower and middle class, but those who have dominated the world have known it for a long time, and it comes from knowledge of millennia ago. Their "Secrets" were kept hidden, only accessible to pharaohs, kings, emperors and, later, to billionaires, bankers and other "masters" of the planet.
