Book Synopsis Innovation Economics by : Robert D. Atkinson
Download or read book Innovation Economics written by Robert D. Atkinson and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book delivers a critical wake-up call: a fierce global race for innovation advantage is under way, and while other nations are making support for technology and innovation a central tenet of their economic strategies and policies, America lacks a robust innovation policy. What does this portend? Robert Atkinson and Stephen Ezell, widely respected economic thinkers, report on profound new forces that are shaping the global economy—forces that favor nations with innovation-based economies and innovation policies. Unless the United States enacts public policies to reflect this reality, Americans face the relatively lower standards of living associated with a noncompetitive national economy. The authors explore how a weak innovation economy not only contributed to the Great Recession but is delaying America's recovery from it and how innovation in the United States compares with that in other developed and developing nations. Atkinson and Ezell then lay out a detailed, pragmatic road map for America to regain its global innovation advantage by 2020, as well as maximize the global supply of innovation and promote sustainable globalization.
Book Synopsis The Politics of Trade Pressure by : Mohammed Ishaq
Download or read book The Politics of Trade Pressure written by Mohammed Ishaq and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this volume examines Soviet-American relations with a specific emphasis on the American use of trade pressure in comparison with Soviet involvement in regional conflicts, in contrast to a broader East-West dichotomous analysis. Mohammed Ishaq addresses the history of the political and economic partnership, followed by the questions of non-strategic trade, strategic trade, Soviet policy on human rights and Soviet involvement in the Third World and regional conflicts. In doing so, Ishaq recognises the use of trade pressure as economic statecraft in foreign policy in a reassessment of its effectiveness.

Book Synopsis National Security And Technology Transfer by : Gary K. Bertsch
Download or read book National Security And Technology Transfer written by Gary K. Bertsch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-02-22 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deterioration of detente in the wake of the ongoing Soviet arms build-up has sharply focused the East-West trade debate on the question of advanced technology transfer from the United States and its allies to the Soviet bloc. The transfer and acquisition of high technology have become central ingredients in super-power relations and are key elements of any national security policy. President Reagan, among others, has questioned the wisdom of the policies of the 1960s and early 1970s, when trade with the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe expanded rapidly. At recent industrial nation summits, conferees of Western countries agreed to high-level review of their East-West technology trade policies. But in light of the apparent West European commitment to continue and expand trade with the East, as exemplified by the Siberian gas pipeline project, and the growing U.S. opposition to such technology transfer, divisions between U.S. and Western trade policies toward the East are likely to become increasingly acute in the years ahead. Professors Bertsch and McIntyre have selected comprehensive and representative articles to examine the question of technology transfer from a variety of perspectives--political, economic, and military- emphasizing both the U.S. and the Western allies' points of view and offering insights into the complex issues raised by the strategic dimensions of East-West trade.
