Download or read book Firestorm written by Jon Birch and published by . This book was released on 2016-01-02 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible... That America is in a season of divine judgment? That the corruption of American culture portends the end of America? That America's failing foreign policy indicates the end of the world as we know it? That ISIS, Islam, the Syrian civil war, Russia, and Iran factor into Biblical prophecies presently coming to fruition? America, Israel, Iraq and the war against radical Islamic jihad are the hammer and anvil Almighty God is using to shape world events toward the swiftly approaching end times. As the global climate of politics and war intensifies, specifically in the Middle East, many wonder what the future holds. This book answers these questions and many more. "Firestorm" helps readers to understand the spiritual war between light and darkness and the root of this widespread chaos through the lens of biblical prophecy. For, "...the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."(Revelation 19:10) This is a must-read book for evangelical Christians seeking to understand and explain to families and friends the truth about radical Islam, the approaching firestorm on Israel's enemies, the rise of ancient Babylon, and the future of America. Yet this is not a book about the typical doom and gloom as viewed through the unbiblical notions and predictions of popular culture. Rather, a reliable biblical view of prophecy is clearly presented. God's love is the foundation of His prophecy and He desires His children to know what lies ahead. Therefore, the chaos of the end time need not be a discouragement for Christians, for such widespread chaos is itself a signifier of Jesus Christ's soon return!

Book Synopsis A City Upon a Hill by : Larry Witham
Download or read book A City Upon a Hill written by Larry Witham and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2007-08-07 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pivotal moments in U.S. history are indelibly marked by the sermons of the nation's greatest orators. America's Puritan founder John Winthrop preached about "a city upon a hill", a phrase echoed more than three centuries later by President Ronald Reagan in his farewell address to the nation; Abraham Lincoln's two greatest speeches have been called "sermons on the mount"; and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" oration influenced a generation and changed history. From colonial times to the present, the sermon has motivated Americans to fight wars as well as fight for peace. Mighty speeches have called for the abolition of slavery and for the prohibition of alcohol. They have stirred conscientious objectors and demonstrators for the rights of the unborn. Sermons have provoked the mob mentality of witch hunts and blacklists, but they have also stirred activists in the women's and civil rights movements. The sermon has defined America at every step of its history, inspiring great acts of courage and comforting us in times of terror. A City Upon a Hill tells the story of these powerful words and how they shaped the destiny of a nation. A City Upon a Hill includes the story of Robert Hunt, the first preacher to brave the dangerous sea voyage to Jamestown; Jonathan Mayhew's "most seditious sermon ever delivered," which incited Boston's Stamp Act riots in 1765; early calls for abolition and "Captain-Preacher Nat" Turner's bloody slave revolt of 1831; Henry Ward Beecher's sermon at Fort Sumter on the day of Lincoln's assassination; tent revivalist/prohibitionist Billy Sunday's "booze sermon"; the challenging words of Martin Luther King Jr., which inspired the civil rights movement; Billy Graham's moving speeches as "America's pastor" and spiritual advisor to multiple U.S. presidents; and Jerry Falwell's legacy of changing the way America does politics. A City Upon a Hill provides a history of the United States as seen through the lens of the preached words—Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish—that inspired independence, constitutional amendments, and mili-tary victories, and also stirred our worst prejudices, selfish materialism, and stubborn divisiveness—all in the name of God.

Download or read book God's Democracy written by Emilio Gentile and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-09-30 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In God's Democracy, Emilio Gentile argues that the presidency of George W. Bush sought to alter the way religion functions in American political life. Prior to the events of 9/11, the national government operated under a civil religious regime that placed a sacred umbrella over the entire country and its leading political figures. American civil religion was not only an inclusive faith, but one that provided ample room for citizens with different politics and different world views. But in the wake of 9/11, President Bush used religion to differentiate Americans on partisan lines. Relying heavily on his evangelical Christian base, he attempted to substitute for the inclusivism of the traditional American civil religion an exclusivist political religion in which Democrats were portrayed as hostile to religious values and incapable of dealing with the country's foreign enemies. This book provides the historical context for this attempted transformation, and shows in a detailed way how the Bush administration pursued it. Gentile concludes by posing the question of whether this radical shift in the way Americans understand themselves religiously will prove permanent. Unlike other works that strive to show how religion has generally come to be treated in American politics, this new book looks more squarely at the Bush Administration and its attempt to shut out Democrats from the political process by invoking religious language and ideals. He goes on to consider the political exclusivism and whether or not it will persist beyond Bush's tenure.
