Rao's Many Mathematical Contributions as he Turns 90 Years Old, held from November 9–10, 2019, at the University of California, Riverside, California. The articles show the effectiveness of abstract analysis for solving fundamental problems of stochastic theory, specifically the use of functional analytic methods for elucidating stochastic processes and their applications. The volume also includes a biography of M. M. Rao and the list of his publications.

Book Synopsis Estimation and Analysis of Insect Populations by : Lyman L. McDonald
Download or read book Estimation and Analysis of Insect Populations written by Lyman L. McDonald and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were presented at a symposium/workshop on "The Estimation and Analysis of Insect Populations" that was held at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, in January, 1988. The meeting was organized with financial support from the United States - New Zealand Cooperative Science Program and the University of Wyoming. The purpose was to bring together approximately equal numbers of quantitative biologists and biometricians in order to (1) provide a synthesis and evaluation of currently available methods for modeling and estimating parameters of insect population, and to (2) stimulate research into new methods where this is appropriate. The symposium/workshop attracted 46 participants. There were 35 papers presented in four subject areas: analysis of stage-frequency data, modeling of population dynamiCS, analysis of spatial data, and general sampling and estimation methods. New results were presented in all these areas. All except one of the papers is included in the present volume.

Book Synopsis Short-Memory Linear Processes and Econometric Applications by : Kairat T. Mynbaev
Download or read book Short-Memory Linear Processes and Econometric Applications written by Kairat T. Mynbaev and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-23 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a comprehensive source of asymptotic results for econometric models with deterministic exogenous regressors. Such regressors include linear (more generally, piece-wise polynomial) trends, seasonally oscillating functions, and slowly varying functions including logarithmic trends, as well as some specifications of spatial matrices in the theory of spatial models. The book begins with central limit theorems (CLTs) for weighted sums of short memory linear processes. This part contains the analysis of certain operators in Lp spaces and their employment in the derivation of CLTs. The applications of CLTs are to the asymptotic distribution of various estimators for several econometric models. Among the models discussed are static linear models with slowly varying regressors, spatial models, time series autoregressions, and two nonlinear models (binary logit model and nonlinear model whose linearization contains slowly varying regressors). The estimation procedures include ordinary and nonlinear least squares, maximum likelihood, and method of moments. Additional topical coverage includes an introduction to operators, probabilities, and linear models; Lp-approximable sequences of vectors; convergence of linear and quadratic forms; regressions with slowly varying regressors; spatial models; convergence; nonlinear models; and tools for vector autoregressions.

Book Synopsis Filtering and Parameter Estimation for Partially Observed Generalized Hawkes Processes by : Anca Patricia Vacarescu
Download or read book Filtering and Parameter Estimation for Partially Observed Generalized Hawkes Processes written by Anca Patricia Vacarescu and published by Stanford University. This book was released on 2011 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider the nonlinear filtering problem for partially observed Generalized Hawkes Processes, which can be applied in the context of portfolio credit risk. The problem belongs to the larger class of hidden Markov models, where the counting process is observed at discrete points in time and the observations are sparse, while the intensity driving process in unobservable. We construct the conditional distribution of the process given the information filtration and we discuss the analytical and numerical properties of the corresponding filters. In particular, we study the sensitivity of the filters with respect to the parameters of the model, and we obtain a monotonicity result with respect to the jump and the volatility terms driving the intensity. Using the scaled process, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the frequency of time observations in terms of the parameters of the model, to ensure a good performance of the filter. We also address the problem of parameter estimation for the Generalized Hawkes Process in the framework of the EM algorithm, and we analyze the effect of the self-exciting feature of our process on the asymptotic and numerical properties of the estimators.
