Book Synopsis Evaluated Nuclear Data for Nuclides Within the Thorium-uranium Fuel Cycle by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Evaluated Nuclear Data for Nuclides Within the Thorium-uranium Fuel Cycle written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thorium based nuclear fuel cycle offers many advantages with respect to safety, reduced proliferation risk and waste management. However, the quality of nuclear data for the relevant materials is lower than for the comparable materials in uranium or mixed oxide (plutonium) fuel cycles. This publication presents the results of a coordinated research project aiming to improve the database of experimentally measured nuclear data of nuclides appearing in the thorium-uranium fuel cycle. It includes complex and comprehensive evaluated nuclear data files with a broad consensus on quality and validated performance based on benchmark test cases.

Download or read book Managing the Nuclear Fuel Cycle written by Mary Beth Nikitin and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major concern about the global expansion of nuclear power is the potential spread of nuclear fuel cycle technology -- particularly uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing -- that could be used for nuclear weapons. Despite 30 years of effort to limit access to uranium enrichment, several undeterred states pursued clandestine nuclear programs. Contents of this report: (1) Intro.; (2) Worldwide Nuclear Power Status; Nuclear Fuel Services Market; Waste Disposal and Energy Security; (3) Assurance of Fuel Supply: Supplier Guarantees, Fuel Reserves, and Enrichment Services; Supply-Side approaches; (4) Comparison of Proposals; (5) Prospects for Implementing Fuel Assurance Mechanisms. This is a print on demand report.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The investigation of the thorium fuel cycle (ThFC) is a collaborative INPRO (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) activity within its main area on global vision on sustainable nuclear energy for the 21st century. The current publication reports on the sustainability of nuclear power by re-examining the potential of thorium-based fuel cycles to support future large scale deployment of nuclear energy systems by increasing the availability of nuclear material. Special attention is paid to the thorium fuel cycle from the point of view of economics and proliferation resistance."--Publisher description.

Book Synopsis Viability of Inert Matrix Fuel in Reducing Plutonium Amounts in Reactors by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Viability of Inert Matrix Fuel in Reducing Plutonium Amounts in Reactors written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2006 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reactors around the world have produced more than 2000 tonnes of plutonium, contained in spent fuel or as separated forms through reprocessing. Disposition of fissile materials has become a primary concern of nuclear non-proliferation efforts worldwide. There is a significant interest in IAEA Member States to develop proliferation resistant nuclear fuel cycles for incineration of plutonium such as inert matrix fuels (IMFs). This publication reviews the status of potential IMF candidates and describes several identified candidate materials for both fast and thermal reactors: MgO, ZrO2, SiC, Zr alloy, SiAl, ZrN; some of these have undergone test irradiations and post irradiation examination. Also discussed are modelling of IMF fuel performance and safety analysis. System studies have identified strategies for both implementation of IMF fuel as homogeneous or heterogeneous phases, as assemblies or core loadings and in existing reactors in the shorter term, as well as in new reactors in the longer term.
