Book Synopsis Essential Readings in Problem-Based Learning by : Andrew Walker
Download or read book Essential Readings in Problem-Based Learning written by Andrew Walker and published by Purdue University Press. This book was released on 2015-01-15 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like most good educational interventions, problem-based learning (PBL) did not grow out of theory, but out of a practical problem. Medical students were bored, dropping out, and unable to apply what they had learned in lectures to their practical experiences a couple of years later. Neurologist Howard S. Barrows reversed the sequence, presenting students with patient problems to solve in small groups and requiring them to seek relevant knowledge in an effort to solve those problems. Out of his work, PBL was born. The application of PBL approaches has now spread far beyond medical education. Today, PBL is used at levels from elementary school to adult education, in disciplines ranging across the humanities and sciences, and in both academic and corporate settings. This book aims to take stock of developments in the field and to bridge the gap between practice and the theoretical tradition, originated by Barrows, that underlies PBL techniques.

The first edition of Project Management for Small Projects introduced project management processes, tools, and techniques that are scalable and adaptable to small projects. Project managers learned a structured, disciplined approach to managing small projects sensibly and realistically. This new edition is updated throughout to reflect the PMBOK® Guide, Fifth Edition, balancing the particular needs of small projects with the project management methodology. Project managers who are proficient at managing and leading their own projects are increasingly being called upon to work collaboratively with other project managers to lead components of a program. In addition to knowing how to manage processes and how to lead the team, project managers must now also know how to collaborate and share knowledge with other project managers. A new chapter on program management offers important insights and guidance for managing a group of related small projects in a coordinated way to obtain benefits and control not available from managing them individually.
Book Synopsis The Project Method by : Joan-Ivonne Bake
Download or read book The Project Method written by Joan-Ivonne Bake and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject English - Pedagogy, Didactics, Literature Studies, grade: keine, University of Duisburg-Essen, course: From Theory to practise, language: English, abstract: 1 Introduction In line with the seminar of Mr. Sudhoff and Mr. Paulick "From theory to practise", I took a closer look at some theoretical theories of the project method. In Germany the project work has different significance from school to school. The bandwidth reaches from express rejection to regular individual projects and project weeks. There are only few schools with deep-seated projects and curricula with declared project work. Mainly two objections are raised for the slow expansion of projects in our schools. Firstly there is the theoretic-didactical objection - a serious theory of project work wouldn't exist and secondly the practical objection - project work would be incompatible with the constraints of daily school-life. The first argument can be disproved easily, because meanwhile there are several important releases about the theory of project work and as the case may be about the project method. The following chapters will deal with a part of them.

Book Synopsis Setting the Standard for Project Based Learning by : John Larmer
Download or read book Setting the Standard for Project Based Learning written by John Larmer and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project based learning (PBL) is gaining renewed attention with the current focus on college and career readiness and the performance-based emphases of Common Core State Standards, but only high-quality versions can deliver the beneficial outcomes that schools want for their students. It’s not enough to just “do projects.” Today’s projects need to be rigorous, engaging, and in-depth, and they need to have student voice and choice built in. Such projects require careful planning and pedagogical skill. The authors—leaders at the respected Buck Institute for Education—take readers through the step-by-step process of how to create, implement, and assess PBL using a classroom-tested framework. Also included are chapters for school leaders on implementing PBL systemwide and the use of PBL in informal settings. Examples from all grade levels and content areas provide evidence of the powerful effects that PBL can have, including * increased student motivation and preparation for college, careers, and citizenship; * better results on high-stakes tests; * a more satisfying teaching experience; and * new ways for educators to communicate with parents, communities, and the wider world. By successfully implementing PBL, teachers can not only help students meet standards but also greatly improve their instruction and make school a more meaningful place for learning. Both practical and inspirational, this book is an essential guide to creating classrooms and schools where students—and teachers—excel.
