This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Conference Proceedings deal with the papers presented at the International Conference on Ion Exchange Processes (ION-EX '90) which was held at The North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, 9- 11 July 1990. The camera-ready paper format was chosen so that delegates could receive their copy on arrival at the Conference. The Proceedings include reviews of biological materials, inorganic ion exchangers, the nuclear industry, theoretical aspects and new advances. In addition, there are research papers dealing with industrial ion exchange procedures and new materials. The Proceedings should therefore be of interest to those who need to be brought up to date in the various aspects of processes which involve ion exchange and ion chromatography which are now accepted as important in analysis, separation processes and process control. In each of these areas there have been important developments which are herein described. As Editors we should like to express our thanks to the individual authors for preparing their manuscripts in the required format and to Haydn Hughes and Linda Sneddon for their invaluable assistance in compiling these Proceedings. Book Synopsis Bioseparation Engineering by : I. Endo
Download or read book Bioseparation Engineering written by I. Endo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-03-17 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bioseparation engineering of today includes downstream process engineering such as waste water, material and gas treatment. Taking this tendency into account, bioseparation engineers gathered in Japan as a special research group under the main theme of "Recovery and Recycle of Resources to Protect the Global Environment". The scope of this book is based on the conference, and deals not only with recent advances in bioseparation engineering in a narrow sence, but also the environmental engineering which includes waste water treatment and bioremediation. The contributors of this book cover many disciplines such as chemical engineering, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and microbiology. Bioseparation Engineering will stimulate young engineers and scientists who will develop bioseparation engineering further in the 21st century, and contribute to a world-wide attention to the global environment

Book Synopsis Ion Exchange Advances by : M.J. Slater
Download or read book Ion Exchange Advances written by M.J. Slater and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at the Sixth International Ion Exchange Conference organised by the SCI and held at Churchill College, Cambridge, UK, in July 1992. As on previous occasions, most recently in 1988, the organising committee did not engage plenary speakers but decided to solicit state-of-the-art contributions from the ion exchange community. This book contains the refereed papers presented at the meeting, whether in poster or oral form. Extra papers were presented at the meeting as posters because they were not available in time for refereeing purposes. The subject matter of the meeting and therefore the contents of the book is subdivided into seven separate topic areas as follows: resin developments; water treatment; fundamentals; biotechnology, food and pharmaceuticals; environmental and pollution control; membranes, inorganic materials and nuclear; and hydrometallurgy. The coverage of the meeting is similar to 1988 although there are fewer subdivisions on this occasion. The more restricted coverage this time reflects the smaller number of papers offered by authors. This is probably due to the world wide industrial recession which has affected commercial development and exploitation of the technology and restricts the ability of practitioners and academics to contribute to and attend international meetings. Nevertheless, the advances in biotechnology, growing concern about the environment and the. need for novel separation processes have provided sufficient impetus to stimulate a sufficient number of workers in the field.

Book Synopsis Mass Transfer and Kinetics of Ion Exchange by : L. Liberti
Download or read book Mass Transfer and Kinetics of Ion Exchange written by L. Liberti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While ion-exchange processes were originally used for the treatment of very dilute solutions, many applications for the treatment of concentrated solu tions have been developed in recent years. In these situations, the mass transfer bottlenecks are located in the~, rather than the liquid phase. Therefore, the development of quantitative models for ion-exchange kinetics requires knowledge about the conductance characteristics of ions and solvent in the solid phase. A useful approach towards this aim is the study of trans port characteristics of these species, and of their interactions in solid ion exchange membranes. Many different transport processes and related phenomena can be observed in membrane-solution systems, e.g., ion migration, electroosmosis, diffusion arid self-diffusion, osmosis, hydraulic flow, hyperfiltration (reverse osmosis) or ultrafiltration, streaming potential and streaming current, and membrane potentials (also called "membrane concentration potentials"). It is important to correlate all these phenomena so as to avoid a very large number of unnec essary measurements. Such correlation is often possible [Meares, 1976] since all these phenomena are determined by the ease of migration of the different species across the membrane. Important correlations have been made and summar ized even before high-capacity ion-exchange membranes became commercially available [Sollner, 1950, 197iJ.
Book Synopsis Principles of Desalination (Part A) by : K Speigler
Download or read book Principles of Desalination (Part A) written by K Speigler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Desalination, Part A, Second Edition is a collection of papers that describes the design of distillation and dual-purpose plants, what desalination can and cannot accomplish in an economical way. One paper discusses techniques toward a rapid and direct way of optimizing the economic performance of sea water conversion systems, incurring capital and continuing costs of operation (for example, transformer equipment, filtration devices, and chemical preparation). Another paper considers the general system and internal system engineering of distillation. Designing distilling plants involves the selection of process parameters, cycle determination, and calculation of water costs. The different types of evaporators are the boiling-type, the flash type, the vapor compression, the combination plant cycles, and the power plant make-up evaporators. Commercial sea water desalination plants incorporate multistage flash evaporators or multieffect vertical-tube or horizontal-tube evaporators. The problem of energy supply to these plants can be solved by a combined generation of electricity and low pressure steam. When the generation of electricity and low pressure steam are combined, the extra fuel demand for electricity generation over the fuel demand for low pressure steam generation only, is less than that for electricity generation alone. This book is suitable for economists, environmentalists, ecologists, and policy makers involved in energy conservation, agricultural development, and water management.
