Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During a short visit to Bremen in December 1989 John Rosenberg had several discussions with me about computer architecture. Although we had previously worked together for more than a decade in Australia we had not seen each other for over a year, following my move to Bremen in 1988. Meanwhile John was spending a year on study leave at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland with Professor Ron Morrison and his persistent programming research group. From our conversations it was quite clear that John was having a most fruitful time in St. Andrews and was gaining valuable new insights into the world of persistent programming. He was very keen to explore the significance of these insights for the MONADS Project, which we had been jOintly directing since the early 1980s. MONADS was not about persistent programming. In fact it had quite different origins, in the areas of software engineering and information protection. In an earlier stage of the project our ideas on these themes had led us into the world of computer architecture and even hardware deSign, in our attempts to provide an efficient base machine for our software ideas. The most important practical result of this phase of the project had been the development of the MONADS-PC, a mini computer which would be better compared with say a V tv

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ad hoc and ubiquitous computing technologies have received extensive attention in both the academia and industry with the explosive growth of wireless communication devices. These technologies are beneficial for many applications, such as offering futuristic high bandwidth access for users, and are expected to offer more exciting and efficient services, anytime and anywhere. In order to satisfy these diverse applications, the design issues of various wireless networks such as ad hoc, sensor, and mesh networks are extremely complicated and there are a number of technique challenges that need to be explored, involving every layer of the OSI protocol stack. This book aims to provide a complete understanding of these networks by investigating the evolution of ad hoc, sensor, and mesh networking technologies from theoretic concept to implementation protocols, from fundamentals to real applications. It provides the necessary background material needed to go deeper into the subject and explore the research literature. The explanation in the book is therefore sufficiently detailed to serve as a comprehensive reference for students, instructors, researchers, engineers, and other professionals, building their understanding of these networks. Sample Chapter(s). Chapter 1: Survey on Link Quality Models in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks (235 KB). Contents: Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: Survey on Link Quality Models in Wireless Ad Hoc Networks (M Lu & J Wu); Scalable Multicast Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (R Menchaca-Mendez & J J Garcia-Luna-Aceves); TCP, Congestion, and Admission Control Protocols in Ad Hoc Networks (A Mishra et al.); Wireless Ad Hoc Networks with Directional Antennas (B Alawieh et al.); Peer-to-Peer and Content Sharing in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (M Abuelela & S Olariu); Properties of the Vehicle-to-Vehicle Channel for Dedicated Short Range Communications (L Cheng et al.); Radio Resource Management in Cellular Relay Networks (K-D Lee & V C M Leung); Game Theoretic Tools Applied to Wireless Networks (H Liu et al.); Wireless Sensor Networks: Wireless Sensor Networks OCo Routing Protocols (A Jamalipour & M A Azim); Handling QoS Traffic in Wireless Sensor Networks (M Younis et al.); Mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks (A Asok et al.); Delay-Tolerant Mobile Sensor Networks (Y Wang & H Wu); Integration of RFID and Wireless Sensor Networks (H Liu et al.); Integrating Sensor Networks with the Semantic Web (Y Pei & B Wang); Effective Multiuser Broadcast Authentication in Wireless Sensor Networks (K Ren et al.); Security Attacks and Challenges in Wireless Sensor Networks (A-S K Pathan & C S Hong); Information Security in Wireless Sensor Networks (A Ouadjaout et al.); Wireless Mesh Networks: Network Architecture and Flow Control in Multi-Hop Wireless Mesh Networks (D Nandiraju et al.); Multi-Hop MAC: IEEE 802.11s Wireless Mesh Networks (R C Carrano et al.); Channel Assignment in Wireless Mesh Networks (W Fu et al.); Multi-Hop, Multi-Path and Load Balanced Routing in Wireless Mesh Networks (S Mishra & N Shenoy); Mobility Management in Wireless Mesh Networks (P Wu et al.); Selfishness and Security Schemes for Wireless Mesh Network (L Santhanam et al.). Book excerpt: This book focuses on negotiation processes and how negotiation modeling frameworks and information technology can support these. A modeling framework for negotiation as a purposeful complex adaptive process is presented and computer-implemented in the first three chapters. Two game-theoretic contributions use non-cooperative games in extensive form and a computer-implemented graph model for conflict resolution, respectively. Two chapters use the negotiators' joint utility distribution to provide problem structure and computer support. A chapter on cognitive support uses restructurable modeling as a framework. One chapter matches information technologies with negotiation tasks. Another develops computer support based on preference programming. Two final chapters develop a stakeholder approach to support system evaluation, and a research framework for them, respectively. Negotiation Processes: Modeling Frameworks and Information Technology will be of interest to researchers and students in the areas of negotiation, group decision/negotiation support systems and management science, as well as to practising negotiators interested in this technology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years now Enterprise Information Systems have been critical in helping businesses successfully navigate the global market. The development that started with design and implementation of integrated systems has evolved to incorporate a multitude of perspectives and ideas. The Enterprise Information Systems functionality extends from principally an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system to a portfolio of standard systems including CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems and SCM (Supply Chain Management) systems. Advances in Enterprise Information Systems II is divided into seven thematic sections, each exploring a distinct topic. In “Concepts in Enterprise Information Systems” the authors present new concepts and ideas for the field. “Cases in Enterprise Information Systems” introduces studies of enterprise information systems in an organizational context. “Business Process Management” is one of the major themes within enterprise information systems and “Designing Enterprise Information Systems” discusses new approaches to the design of processes and system and also deals with how design can be taken as a specific perspective. “Enterprise Information Systems in various domains” features generic studies that contribute to advancing the practical knowledge of the field as well as towards “Global issues of Enterprise Information Systems”. Finally, in “Emerging Topics in Enterprise Information Systems”, new technologies and ideas are explored. Cloud computing in particular seems to be setting the agenda for future research in enterprise information systems. The book will be invaluable to academics and professionals interested in recent developments in the field of enterprise information systems.
