Book Synopsis Offshore Structure Modeling by : Subrata Kumar Chakrabarti
Download or read book Offshore Structure Modeling written by Subrata Kumar Chakrabarti and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-02-21 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the existing literature on offshore structures touch on model testing, a comprehensive text discussing the design, construction, instrumentation, testing and analysis of the physical model is lacking. This book fills that vacuum and provides, through its survey of the theoretical and practical aspects of physical modeling, an in-depth coverage of the technology of model testing. Its usefulness runs through the entire field of engineering, reaching far beyond its focus on offshore construction; and its breadth of scope should appeal not only to engineers and naval architects but to scientists interested in structural or hydraulic testing as well.

Book Synopsis A Contrarotating Propeller Design for a High Speed Patrol Boat with Pod Propulsion by : Benjamin Y.-H. Chen
Download or read book A Contrarotating Propeller Design for a High Speed Patrol Boat with Pod Propulsion written by Benjamin Y.-H. Chen and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A contrarotating (CR) propeller design with a tractor pod for a high speed patrol boat is addressed. In the current arrangement, a CR propeller is placed at the forward end of a pod which is aligned with the local inflow. The powering and cavitation experiments show the performance prediction agree well with measurements. Compared to the existing controllable pitch propeller with shaft and struct configureation, the pod-mounted CR propeller show a 28% reduction in power consumption at design speed with a 7 know improvement in cavitation inception speed. At full power, a larger pod is required, which will reduce the gain in power consumption.
Book Synopsis Dynamics Of Marine Craft, The: Maneuvering And Seakeeping by : Edward M Lewandowski
Download or read book Dynamics Of Marine Craft, The: Maneuvering And Seakeeping written by Edward M Lewandowski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-07-14 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a theoretical treatment, as well as a summary of practical methods of computation, of the forces and moments that act on marine craft. Its aim is to provide the tools necessary for the prediction or simulation of craft motions in calm water and in waves. In addition to developing the required equations, the author gives relations that permit at least approximate evaluation of the coefficients so that useful results can be obtained. The approach begins with the equations of motion for rigid bodies, relative to fixed- and moving-coordinate systems; then, the hydrodynamic forces are examined, starting with hydrostatics and progressing to the forces on a moving vehicle in calm water and (after a review of water-wave theory) in waves. Several detailed examples are presented, including calculations of hydrostatics, horizontal- and vertical-plane directional stability, and wave-induced motions. Also included are unique discussions on various effects, such as fin-hull interactions, numerical stability of integrators, heavy torpedoes, and the dynamics of high-speed craft. The book is intended to be an introductory-level graduate text and a reference for the practicing professional.

Download or read book Electric Aircraft Dynamics written by Ranjan Vepa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric Aircraft Dynamics: A Systems Engineering Approach surveys engineering sciences that underpin the dynamics, control, monitoring, and design of electric propulsion systems for aircraft. It is structured to appeal to readers with a science and engineering background and is modular in format. The closely linked chapters present descriptive material and relevant mathematical modeling techniques. Taken as a whole, this ground-breaking text equips professional and student readers with a solid foundation for advanced work in this emerging field. Key Features: Provides the first systems-based overview of this emerging aerospace technology Surveys low-weight battery technologies and their use in electric aircraft propulsion Explores the design and use of plasma actuation for boundary layer and flow control Considers the integrated design of electric motor-driven propellers Includes PowerPoint slides for instructors using the text for classes Dr. Ranjan Vepa earned his PhD in applied mechanics from Stanford University, California. He currently serves as a lecturer in the School of Engineering and Material Science, Queen Mary University of London, where he has also been the programme director of the Avionics Programme since 2001. Dr. Vepa is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, London; the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), New York; a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy; a member of the Royal Institute of Navigation, London; and a chartered engineer.
