Book Synopsis Event-Triggered and Time-Triggered Control Paradigms by : Roman Obermaisser
Download or read book Event-Triggered and Time-Triggered Control Paradigms written by Roman Obermaisser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Event-Triggered and Time-Triggered Control Paradigms presents a valuable survey about existing architectures for safety-critical applications and discusses the issues that must be considered when moving from a federated to an integrated architecture. The book focuses on one key topic - the amalgamation of the event-triggered and the time-triggered control paradigm into a coherent integrated architecture. The architecture provides for the integration of independent distributed application subsystems by introducing multi-criticality nodes and virtual networks of known temporal properties. The feasibility and the tangible advantages of this new architecture are demonstrated with practical examples taken from the automotive industry. Event-Triggered and Time-Triggered Control Paradigms offers significant insights into the architecture and design of integrated embedded systems, both at the conceptual and at the practical level.

Book Synopsis On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems 2004: OTM 2004 Workshops by : Zahir Tari
Download or read book On the Move to Meaningful Internet Systems 2004: OTM 2004 Workshops written by Zahir Tari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-10-14 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A special mention for 2004 is in order for the new Doctoral Symposium Workshop where three young postdoc researchers organized an original setup and formula to bring PhD students together and allow them to submit their research proposals for selection. A limited number of the submissions and their approaches were independently evaluated by a panel of senior experts at the conference, and presented by the students in front of a wider audience. These students also got free access to all other parts of the OTM program, and only paid a heavily discounted fee for the Doctoral Symposium itself. (In fact their attendance was largely sponsored by the other participants!) If evaluated as successful, it is the intention of the General Chairs to expand this model in future editions of the OTM conferences and so draw in an audience of young researchers to the OnTheMove forum. All three main conferences and the associated workshops share the d- tributed aspects of modern computing systems, and the resulting applicati- pull created by the Internet and the so-called Semantic Web. For DOA 2004, the primary emphasis stayed on the distributed object infrastructure; for ODBASE 2004, it was the knowledge bases and methods required for enabling the use of formalsemantics;andforCoopIS2004themaintopicwastheinteractionofsuch technologies and methods with management issues, such as occurs in networked organizations. These subject areas naturally overlap and many submissions in factalsotreatenvisagedmutualimpactsamongthem.

Book excerpt: With the omnipresence of micro devices in our daily lifes embedded software has gained tremendous importance in both science and industry. This volume contains 34 invited papers from the First International Workshop on Embedded Systems. They present latest research results from different areas of computer science that are traditionally distinct but relevant to embedded software development (such as, for example, component based design, functional programming, real-time Java, resource and storage allocation, verification). Each paper focuses on one topic, showing the inter-relationship and application to the design and implementation of embedded software systems.

Download or read book ECRTS 2003 written by and published by Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers(IEEE). This book was released on 2003 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation The typical subjects treated in the conference are traditionally related to scheduling, communication, operating systems, design methods, computer architectures, networks, performance analysis, and many more. During the last few years, the field of real-time systems quickly expanded toward new application areas, including multimedia computing, embedded systems, and wireless networks. Such new domains gave rise to new challenges and stimulated research in novel directions, such as quality of service management, energy-aware computing, stochastic scheduling, and feedback-based techniques for adaptive operating systems.
Book Synopsis Guide to Wireless Sensor Networks by : Sudip Misra
Download or read book Guide to Wireless Sensor Networks written by Sudip Misra and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-05-29 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overview and Goals Wireless communication technologies are undergoing rapid advancements. The last few years have experienced a steep growth in research in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In WSNs, communication takes place with the help of spatially distributedautonomoussensornodesequippedtosensespeci?cinformation. WSNs, especially the ones that have gained much popularity in the recent years, are, ty- cally, ad hoc in nature and they inherit many characteristics/features of wireless ad hoc networks such as the ability for infrastructure-less setup, minimal or no reliance on network planning, and the ability of the nodes to self-organize and self-con?gure without the involvement of a centralized network manager, router, access point, or a switch. These features help to set up WSNs fast in situations where there is no existing network setup or in times when setting up a ?xed infrastructure network is considered infeasible, for example, in times of emergency or during relief - erations. WSNs ?nd a variety of applications in both the military and the civilian population worldwide such as in cases of enemy intrusion in the battle?eld, object tracking, habitat monitoring, patient monitoring, ?re detection, and so on. Even though sensor networks have emerged to be attractive and they hold great promises for our future, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. Some of the well-known challenges are attributed to issues relating to coverage and deployment, scalability, quality-of-service, size, computational power, energy ef?ciency, and security.
