Download or read book Non-destructive Micro Analysis of Cultural Heritage Materials written by K. Janssens and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-11-26 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the scientific and technical background materials of non-destructive methods of microscopic analysis that are suitable for analysing works of art, museum pieces and archeaological artefacts. Written by experts in the field, this multi-author volume contains a number of case studies, illustrating the value of these methods. The book is suited to natural scientists and analysts looking to increase their knowledge of the various methods that are currently available for non-destructive analysis. It is also the perfect resource for museum curators, archaeologists and art-historians seeking to identify one or more suitable methods of analysis that could solve material-related problems.

Book excerpt: This phenomenon (also known as the Compensation Effect) can occur in any situation which involves an activated process. However, the rule is still most commonly referred to in connection with diffusion phenomena. As the rule still tends to exist in a sort of limbo between fully accepted physical law and unexplained correlation, this volume presents a handy survey of relevant diffusion data reaching back as far as the 1930s.

Book Synopsis Microscopic Properties and Processes in Minerals by : Kate Wright
Download or read book Microscopic Properties and Processes in Minerals written by Kate Wright and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-10-31 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major developments in Earth Sciences in general, and mineralogy in particular, has been the growth of our understanding of the microscopic behaviour of the complex materials that make up the Earth. This has been made possible by advances in our ability to probe minerals at the atomic level, over a large range of pressure and temperature conditions. New experimental techniques include the use of scanning probe microscopies to investigate mineral surfaces, as well as the use of neutron scattering, nuclear spectroscopies and synchrotron radiation to investigate the bonding and structure of minerals. In addition, there have been major developments in computational methods so that it is now possible to calculate the electronic structure of many rock forming materials. The aim of this volume is to give a coherent survey of the latest developments in experimental and theoretical approaches to the study of microscopic propertie~ and processes in minerals. Chapters in the book cover a number of key themes in the mineral sciences such as the behaviour of minerals at extremes of pressure and temperature, ordering in complex silicates, mechanisms of water incorporation in mantle phases, the importance of reactions occurring at the mineral surface, and the ability of computational methods to provide useful, qualitative information on the bulk and surface properties of minerals. The background to several experimental techniques is covered in some detail with examples of relevance to the issues cited above.

Book excerpt: This is a two-volume set containing the proceedings of the May 2000 conference on European powder diffraction, a non-destructive technique widely applied for the characterization of crystalline materials. Part 1 (54 contributions) covers method development (deconvolution and pattern decomposition, determination of crystal structure and lattice constants, qualitative and quantitative phase analysis, analysis of microstructure and macrostress, and texture and coarse grains); instrumental development and measurement techniques; and synchrotron power, neutron powder, and in-situ (time-resolved) powder diffraction diffraction. Part 2 (80 contributions) addresses the results of applications of various methods to specific classes of materials. such as thin layers, polymers and amorphous materials, metals and alloys, minerals and inorganics, and organic materials. Book Synopsis Comprehensive Materials Processing by :
Download or read book Comprehensive Materials Processing written by and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2014-04-07 with total page 5485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprehensive Materials Processing, Thirteen Volume Set provides students and professionals with a one-stop resource consolidating and enhancing the literature of the materials processing and manufacturing universe. It provides authoritative analysis of all processes, technologies, and techniques for converting industrial materials from a raw state into finished parts or products. Assisting scientists and engineers in the selection, design, and use of materials, whether in the lab or in industry, it matches the adaptive complexity of emergent materials and processing technologies. Extensive traditional article-level academic discussion of core theories and applications is supplemented by applied case studies and advanced multimedia features. Coverage encompasses the general categories of solidification, powder, deposition, and deformation processing, and includes discussion on plant and tool design, analysis and characterization of processing techniques, high-temperatures studies, and the influence of process scale on component characteristics and behavior. Authored and reviewed by world-class academic and industrial specialists in each subject field Practical tools such as integrated case studies, user-defined process schemata, and multimedia modeling and functionality Maximizes research efficiency by collating the most important and established information in one place with integrated applets linking to relevant outside sources
