Book excerpt: The International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD) has produced an outstanding series of eight proceedings volumes from their quadrennial meetings held in various countries around the world. The IAGOD proceedings volumes are the most important quadrennial international volumes on ore deposits. This ninth proceedings volume contains 49 full-size papers selected from 900 papers submitted for the 9th IAGOD Symposium held in Beijing, China. More than 300 geoscientists from 42 countries and regions attended that very successful quadrennial IAGOD meeting. This volume is an important contribution to the literature on ore deposits, and is a volume which should be of interest to economic geologists, mineralogists, structural geologists, petrologists and geochemists.

Book Synopsis Critical Mineral Resources of the United States by : K. J. Schulz
Download or read book Critical Mineral Resources of the United States written by K. J. Schulz and published by Geological Survey. This book was released on 2017 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the importance and dependence of specific mineral commodities increase, so does concern about their supply. The United States is currently 100 percent reliant on foreign sources for 20 mineral commodities and imports the majority of its supply of more than 50 mineral commodities. Mineral commodities that have important uses and face potential supply disruption are critical to American economic and national security. However, a mineral commodity's importance and the nature of its supply chain can change with time; a mineral commodity that may not have been considered critical 25 years ago may be critical today, and one considered critical today may not be so in the future. The U.S. Geological Survey has produced this volume to describe a select group of mineral commodities currently critical to our economy and security. For each mineral commodity covered, the authors provide a comprehensive look at (1) the commodity's use; (2) the geology and global distribution of the mineral deposit types that account for the present and possible future supply of the commodity; (3) the current status of production, reserves, and resources in the United States and globally; and (4) environmental considerations related to the commodity's production from different types of mineral deposits. The volume describes U.S. critical mineral resources in a global context, for no country can be self-sufficient for all its mineral commodity needs, and the United States will always rely on global mineral commodity supply chains. This volume provides the scientific understanding of critical mineral resources required for informed decisionmaking by those responsible for ensuring that the United States has a secure and sustainable supply of mineral commodities.

This book was released on 2023-02-14 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the materials of the XIII General Meeting of the Russian Mineralogical Society. Over 190 participants prepared the result of their scientific work on mineralogy: mineral diversity and the evolution of mineral formation (S1); minerals as markers of petro- and ore genesis and new methods of their determination (S2); mineralogy and formation conditions of deposits of strategic minerals (S3); problems of applied (technological and ecological) mineralogy and geochemistry (S4); natural stone in art and architecture (S5); modern research in the field of stone and gemological studies (S6); mineralogical crystallography, crystallochemistry, and new minerals (F1); history of science, museumification, and popularization of natural science knowledge (F2). The Russian Mineralogical Society is the oldest mineralogical Society in Russia (from 1817). The Russian Mineralogical Society joins more than 1200 researchers from universities, academic and industry institutes, and production organizations in Russia's major scientific centers. The Society has 17 sections, including crystallochemistry, radiography and spectroscopy of minerals, ore mineralogy, technological mineralogy, experimental mineralogy, ecological mineralogy and geochemistry, and new mineral nomenclature classification. The main scientific and organizing event for the Russian Mineralogical members is the meeting session, organized every fourth year.
Book Synopsis Minor Minerals, Major Implications: Using Key Mineral Phases to Unravel the Formation and Evolution of Earth's Crust by : V. van Schijnde
Download or read book Minor Minerals, Major Implications: Using Key Mineral Phases to Unravel the Formation and Evolution of Earth's Crust written by V. van Schijnde and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of key mineral phases such as zircon, apatite, titanite, rutile, monazite, xenotime, allanite, baddeleyite and garnet, explored in this book, has provided breakthroughs in our understanding of continental crust composition and evolution, as well as the timing, conditions, petrogenetic and geodynamic processes related to its growth and reworking. Therefore, the continuing development of analytical techniques, improvement of tools, data handling, processing, and interpretation allow us to extract and better understand these complex geological processes. This special publication aims at showcasing contributions reviewing the tools and applications of these key minerals, recent technique developments, and new applications using focused case studies investigating igneous, metamorphic and/or detrital rocks that help us put together the continental crust evolution puzzle. This volume highlights the progress made in studies using these key minerals and their future potential.

Book Synopsis Mineral Deposits and Earth Evolution by : Geological Society of London
Download or read book Mineral Deposits and Earth Evolution written by Geological Society of London and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2005 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral deposits are not only primary sources of wealth generation, but also act as windows through which to view the evolution and interrelationships of the Earth system. Deposits formed throughout the last 3.8 billion years of the Earth's history preserve key evidence with which to test fundamental questions about the evolution of the Earth. These include: the nature of early magmatic and tectonic processes, supercontinent reconstructions, the state of the atmosphere and hydrosphere with time, and the emergence and development of life. The interlinking processes that form mineral deposits have always sat at the heart of the Earth system and the potential for using deposits as tools to understand that evolving system over geological time is increasingly recognized. This volume contains research aimed both at understanding the origins of mineral deposits and at using mineral deposits as tools to explore different long-term Earth processes.

Book Synopsis Manganese Mineralization by : Keith Nicholson
Download or read book Manganese Mineralization written by Keith Nicholson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1997 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manganese mineralization is diverse in occurence, origin, mineralogy and geochemistry. This volume includes a review of the range of terrestrial Mn deposits and their relative abundance through geological time. Experimental and modelling approaches to Mn geochemistry and mineralogy can further aid our understanding of the formational and depositational processes involved and thereby our interpretation of deposit metallogenesis.
