Book Synopsis Combinatorial techniques by : Sharad S. Sane
Download or read book Combinatorial techniques written by Sharad S. Sane and published by Hindustan Book Agency. This book was released on 2013-01-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a basic text on combinatorics that deals with all the three aspects of the discipline: tricks, techniques and theory, and attempts to blend them. The book has several distinctive features. Probability and random variables with their interconnections to permutations are discussed. The theme of parity has been specially included and it covers applications ranging from solving the Nim game to the quadratic reciprocity law. Chapters related to geometry include triangulations and Sperner's theorem, classification of regular polytopes, tilings and an introduction to the Eulcidean Ramsey theory. Material on group actions covers Sylow theory, automorphism groups and a classification of finite subgroups of orthogonal groups. All chapters have a large number of exercises with varying degrees of difficulty, ranging from material suitable for Mathematical Olympiads to research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contains five short articles about Roger Lyndon and his contributions to mathematics, as well as twenty-seven invited research papers in combinatorial group theory and closely related areas. Several of the articles featured in this work fall into subfields of combinatorial group theory, areas in which much of the initial work was done by Lyndon.
Book Synopsis Classical Groups and Related Topics by : Alexander Hahn
Download or read book Classical Groups and Related Topics written by Alexander Hahn and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1989 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his lifetime, L. K. Hua played a leading role in and exerted a great influence upon the development in China of modern mathematics, both pure and applied. His mathematical career began in 1931 at Tsinghua University where he continued as a professor for many years. Hua made many significant contributions to number theory, algebra, geometry, complex analysis, numerical analysis, and operations research. In particular, he initiated the study of classical groups in China and developed new matrix methods which, as applied by him as well as his followers, were instrumental in the successful attack of many problems. To honor his memory, a joint China-U.S. conference on Classical Groups and Related Topics was held at Tsinghua University in Beijing in May 1987. This volume represents the proceedings of that conference and contains both survey articles and research papers focusing on classical groups and closely related topics.

This book was released on 2006-03-21 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offers an overview of selected topics on the topology of singularities, with emphasis on its relations to other branches of geometry and topology. This book studies real analytic singularities which arise from the topological and geometric study of holomorphic vector fields and foliations.

Book Synopsis Involutions on Manifolds by : Santiago Lopez de Medrano
Download or read book Involutions on Manifolds written by Santiago Lopez de Medrano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the results of work done during the years 1967-1970 on fixed-point-free involutions on manifolds, and is an enlarged version of the author's doctoral dissertation [54J written under the direction of Professor William Browder. The subject of fixed-paint-free involutions, as part of the subject of group actions on manifolds, has been an important source of problems, examples and ideas in topology for the last four decades, and receives renewed attention every time a new technical development suggests new questions and methods ([62, 8, 24, 63J). Here we consider mainly those properties of fixed-point-free involutions that can be best studied using the techniques of surgery on manifolds. This approach to the subject was initiated by Browder and Livesay. Special attention is given here to involutions of homotopy spheres, but even for this particular case, a more general theory is very useful. Two important related topics that we do not touch here are those of involutions with fixed points, and the relationship between fixed-point-free involutions and free Sl-actions. For these topics, the reader is referred to [23J, and to [33J, [61J, [82J, respectively. The two main problems we attack are those of classification of involutions, and the existence and uniqueness of invariant submanifolds with certain properties. As will be seen, these problems are closely related. If (T, l'n) is a fixed-point-free involution of a homotopy sphere l'n, the quotient l'n/Tis called a homotopy projective space.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Nielsen Fixed Point Theory by : Boju Jiang
Download or read book Lectures on Nielsen Fixed Point Theory written by Boju Jiang and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting with the simplest examples, this book gives an easy introduction to the subject, then explains several very recent developments. It makes available in the English language the covering space approach to Nielsen fixed point theory. As far as research value is concerned, the Nielsen theory of periodic points is published here for the first time, and an exposition and improvement of the latest progress in the Nielsen theory of fiber maps is provided.
Book Synopsis Markov Chains and Invariant Probabilities by : Onésimo Hernández-Lerma
Download or read book Markov Chains and Invariant Probabilities written by Onésimo Hernández-Lerma and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about discrete-time, time-homogeneous, Markov chains (Mes) and their ergodic behavior. To this end, most of the material is in fact about stable Mes, by which we mean Mes that admit an invariant probability measure. To state this more precisely and give an overview of the questions we shall be dealing with, we will first introduce some notation and terminology. Let (X,B) be a measurable space, and consider a X-valued Markov chain ~. = {~k' k = 0, 1, ... } with transition probability function (t.pJ.) P(x, B), i.e., P(x, B) := Prob (~k+1 E B I ~k = x) for each x E X, B E B, and k = 0,1, .... The Me ~. is said to be stable if there exists a probability measure (p.m.) /.l on B such that (*) VB EB. /.l(B) = Ix /.l(dx) P(x, B) If (*) holds then /.l is called an invariant p.m. for the Me ~. (or the t.p.f. P).
