This book was released on 1996-11-22 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings contain the lecture notes of the topics covered during the Summer School as well as the contributions from the Workshop. The first week saw discussions on the phenomenological aspects of particle physics, aspects of CP violation, the implications of precision electroweak experiments, new developments of perturbative QCD, physics beyond the standard model, and the implications of the minimal supersymmetric model and its string motivation. The second week of the School was dedicated to more formal aspects of particle physics including quantum groups and quantum spaces, calculations of loops and anomalies using supersymmetric path integrals, a new description of superstrings, integrable models and a review on the quantum mechanics of black holes.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kyoto Summer Institute 1980 (KSI '80), devoted to "Fundamental Physics of Amorphous Semiconductors", was held at Research Institute for Fundamental Physics (RIFP), Kyoto University, from 8-11 September, 1980. The KSI '80 was the successor of the preceding Institutes which were held in July 1978 on "Particle Physics and Accelerator Projects" and in September 1979 on "Physics of Low-Dimensional Systems". The KSI '80 was attended by 200 participants, of which 36 were from abroad: Canada, France, Korea, Poland, U.K., U.S.A, U.S.S.R., and the Federal Republic of Germany. The KSI '80 was organized by RIFP and directed by the Amorphous Semicon ductor group in Japan. A few years ago, we started to organize an interna tional meeting on amorphous semiconductors' as a satell ite meeting of the International Conference on "Physics of Semiconductors" held on September 1-5, 1980 in Kyoto. We later decided to hold the meeting in the form of the Kyoto Summer Institute. The Kyoto Summer Institute is aimed to be something between a school and a conference. Accordingly, the object of the KSI '80 was to provide a series of invited lectures and informal seminars on fundamental physics of amorphous semiconductors. No contributed paper was accepted, but seminars were open.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twenty-five years of Schladming Winter School 1. The Start Twenty-five years ago P. Urban had the idea of organizing a winter school in the Austrian mountains. The very concept of a school was not new: to bring physicists together in an environment which differs totally from the daily world of institutes and laboratories, to contrast hard classroom work in lectures by distinguished speakers with a relaxed atmosphere, to provide opportunities for entering newly developing fields and exchanging ideas, all this had already resulted in a few summer schools in southern Europe and the US. The idea of combining physics with skiing rather than swimming was, however, new. After some sampling by a few younger members of Ur ban's group, Schladming was selected as an appropriate place. At that time skiing was not very much developed here; there were few lifts, but a road to Hochwurzen and a regular bus service opened at least one longer track. The first meeting took place in a classroom of the local school, w here some 40 participants were squeezed into benches designed for children. In the next year we moved into the dining hall of a small inn, which does not exist any more (an attempt to serve beer during the lectures was stopped by the orga nizing committee). Only in later years did we find a permanent home here in the Stadtsaal.

This book was released on 2019-03-29 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough introduction to the phenomenology of heavy flavour physics, those working on the B-factories, LHCb, BTeV, HERA and the Tevatron. It explains how heavy quark theory could be implemented on the lattice, and discusses the status of CP-violation in the neutral kaon system.

Download or read book Chaos and Statistical Methods written by Y. Kuramoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 6th Kyoto Summer Institute devoted to "Chaos and Statistical Mechanics" was held from September 12 to 15, 1983, at the Research Institute forMathematical Sciences, Kyoto University, and at Hotel Kuniso. The meeting was aimed at clari fying various aspects of chaotic systems appearing in different scientific disci pl ines, critically examining related mathematical methods developed so far, thus preparing for possible breakthroughs, among others, for the opening of a new period of statistical mechanics of deterministic systems. The number of partici pants was 135,of which 24 were from abroad. We believe that the well-prepared lecture of each speaker and lively discussions among many participants from various research fields led the meeting to a successful conclusion. The 6th KSI was organized by the Research Institute for Fundamental Physics. A number of young chaos researchers in Japan also participated actively in the organization. We were also in close contact with the organizer of the IUTAM Sym posium on "Turbulence and Chaotic Phenomena in Fluids" (Kyoto Kaikan Conference Hall, Kyoto, September 5-10 1983). This volume contains most of the lectures presented at the 6th KSI. We are very grateful to all the authors for their efforts in preparing such excellent manuscripts. The 6th KSI was supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and the Yamada Science Foundation. The organizing committee acknowledges gratefully their generous financial support. Finally, than'ks are due to Dr. M. Toya and Miss T. Sumide for their invaluable assistance.
