Download or read book Fukushima Accident written by Pavel P. Povinec and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-07-27 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fukushima Accident: 10 Years After evaluates the post-Fukushima accident situation with up-to-date information, emphasizing radionuclide impacts on the terrestrial and marine environments, and comparing them to the pre-Fukushima accident levels of radionuclides in the environment. This is based on scientific results, as well as knowledge gathered from literature to provide current information on the present status, summarize 10 years of data on the Fukushima accident, and describe the present situation in the local, regional, and global time and space scales. It provides data on radioactivity released into the atmosphere and the ocean, the distribution of radionuclides in the world atmosphere and oceans, and their impact on the total environment, including assessments of radiation doses in Japanese and world populations from consumption of terrestrial food and seafood. It goes on to describe future aspects of the radioactive contamination of these environments and the health implications. This book informs environmental scientists, academics, and researchers in environmental science and nuclear energy as well as postgraduate students in the field of environmental science, radioactivity, and nuclear energy, on the present situation of radioactive contamination of Japan and in the world. Covers the Fukushima radioactivity impact on humans and the environment from the accident to the present Provides full information on radiation doses to Japanese citizens and biota, as well as to the world population, 10 years after the Fukushima accident Details transport of radionuclides in terrestrial and ocean environments, describing how to apply this information to ocean global circulation models and quantify radionuclide contamination of coastal regions Assesses future trends in radioactive contamination of the Fukushima site
Book Synopsis Sol-Gel Methods for Materials Processing by : Yuriy L. Zub
Download or read book Sol-Gel Methods for Materials Processing written by Yuriy L. Zub and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sol-gel processing is a soft-chemistry method to obtain functional materials at low temperatures. This route can be used to produce very sophisticated nanomaterials and to tailor the materials to very specific applications. Adsorption and detection of pollutants, water purification and soil remediation represent challenging fields of application that can be exploited by sol-gel materials. In this volume several contributions from invited speakers and participants at the NATO advanced research workshop on "Sol-gel approaches to materials for pollution control, water purification and soil remediation", which has been held in Kiev, Ukraine on October 2007, are reported. The book offers a wide and updated overview of the most advanced sol-gel methods for materials processing and at the same time presents several case studies concerning possible solutions for environmental issues. General articles on sol-gel from the invited speakers and focused research articles allow getting inside sol-gel applications on this very important field.

Book Synopsis Absorbed Dose Determination in External Beam Radiotherapy by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Absorbed Dose Determination in External Beam Radiotherapy written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Code of Practice, which has also been endorsed by WHO, PAHO and ESTRO, fulfils the need for a systematic and internationally unified approach to the calibration of ionization chambers in terms of absorbed dose to water and to the use of these detectors in determining the absorbed dose to water for the radiation beams used in radiotherapy. It provides a methodology for the determination of absorbed dose to water in the low, medium and high energy photon beams, electron beams, proton beams and heavy ion beams used for external radiation therapy.
Book Synopsis Circuit Analysis by : Leonard J. Tung
Download or read book Circuit Analysis written by Leonard J. Tung and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended as a textbook for a first course in electrical engineering. It is divided into two parts, for a two-semester coverage. The first part deals with circuit elements, resistive circuits, circuit theorems, circuit topology, and the state-variable method. The presentation of the state-variable method is a special feature. The authors believe that the natural way to analyze RLC circuits is to use the state-variable method rather than second- or high-order ordinary differential equations. By choosing capacitor voltages and inductor currents in an RLC circuit as state variables, the so-called state equations can by systematically obtained through network topology. Of particular interest is the approach employing Thevenin's theorem and Norton's theorem to find state equations without using circuit topology. The second part of the book covers sinusoidal stead-state analysis, two-port networks, the Fourier series, the Fourier transform, and the Laplace transform. Great effort has been devoted to presenting the subjects of the Fourier series, the Fourier transform, and the Laplace transform with many practical circuits. Thus, we hope that the reader will be better motivated to learn rather abstract concepts such as complex frequency and frequency response.

Book excerpt: Endoscopic Ear Surgery: Principles, Indications, and Techniques Increasingly used as an adjunctive tool in the diagnosis and management of ear disease, middle ear endoscopy has the potential to decrease patient morbidity, prevent disease recurrence, and reduce costs. Its capacity to uncover "hidden" anatomy within the small dimensions of the ear has made it essential for functional surgery, allowing surgeons to preserve key anatomic structures such as the cochlea and facial nerve. Now for the first time, the physicians who pioneered this groundbreaking minimally invasive technique review its indications, advantages, disadvantages, and surgical approaches: Written by the foremost leaders in the field, all members of the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery Features nearly 1,000 intraoperative endoscopic images filmed with high-definition cameras, plus outstanding line drawings that aid in understanding all concepts Comprehensively covers the field, including chapters on endoscopic and combined endoscopic-microscopic management of cholesteatoma, surgical restoration of middle ear ventilation, myringoplasty, Meniere disease, tympanoplasty and stapes surgery, revision surgery, and much more Demonstrates state-of-the-art endoscopic procedures in 19 instructive videos From the unique anatomy and pathophysiology of the middle ear through diagnosis, surgical indications, procedures, and instrumentation, this book is indispensable for all otolaryngologists and neurotologists. It offers a full picture of the field today, as well as exploring the future possibilities of ear endoscopes alone or in combination with operative microscopes for the most effective treatment of middle ear pathologies.
