Book Synopsis Biomass to Energy Conversion Technologies by : Pratima Bajpai
Download or read book Biomass to Energy Conversion Technologies written by Pratima Bajpai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-10-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomass to Energy Conversion Technologies: The Road to Commercialization examines biomass production, biomass types, properties and characterization, and energy conversion technologies with an emphasis on the production of a gaseous fuel to supplement the gas derived from the landfilling of organic wastes (landfill gas) and used in gas engines to produce electricity. The book discusses the integration of both fermentation and anaerobic digestion in a biorefinery concept that allows the production of ethanol—along with biogas—to be used to produce heat and electricity, thus improving overall energy balance. Included case studies based on worldwide projects discuss both risks and challenges. The main studies on the combination of both bioethanol and biogas production processes are reviewed and the strength and weakness of the integrated treatment for industrial application are highlighted. The book also considers gasification technologies and their potential for biomass gasification and lists the advantages and disadvantages of using of biomass as a source of energy, the path of commercialization of the various processes, energy related environmental issues. - Highlights commercialization and technological risks - Discusses challenges, limitations and future prospects of third- and fourth generation biofuels - Includes integration of both fermentation and anaerobic digestion in a biorefinery concept - Discusses energy related environment issues (Greenhouse effect, acid rain, air pollution)
Book Synopsis Ocean Energy Recovery by : Richard J. Seymour
Download or read book Ocean Energy Recovery written by Richard J. Seymour and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report establishes the state of the art in a full range of renewable energy technologies that harness the power of oceans. Papers discuss mature technologies, such as tidal energy extraction, and conjectural technologies, such as salinity gradients. In addition, the economics of the major systems are compared in a uniform manner, making it possible to realistically assess their economic potential. This publication provides a single source of balanced technical and economic assessments of competing technologies and should interest those involved in the search for alternative sources of energy.

Book Synopsis Renewable Energy Resources And Rural Applications In The Developing World by : Norman L. Brown
Download or read book Renewable Energy Resources And Rural Applications In The Developing World written by Norman L. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energy situation in developing countries is desperate.Because these countries are primarily dependent on fossil fuels--chiefly oil--for industrial growth, they have been hard hit by oil price increases. Further, in the rural areas, where most of the population lives, there are limited supplies of increasingly expensive diesel fuel or kerosene. Noncormzercial energy sources such as firewood, dung, and agriouZtural residues are generally used in rural areas, but under the pressure of growing populations the forests are disappearing. This is resulting in a critical shortage of firewood for cooking and heating, as well as in the destruction of the environment. In addition, when dung and agricultural residues are burned, valuable fertilizers are destroyed. Thus, the rural areas--the sources of food and fiber--face a particularly alarming situation.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Energy for World Agriculture by : B.A. Stout
Download or read book Handbook of Energy for World Agriculture written by B.A. Stout and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adequate food supplies and a reasonable quality of life require energy - both in commercial and non-commercial forms. This handbook is intended as a reference for individuals who want a comprehensive overview of energy for agriculture, many of whom are located in remote areas with limited library resources. The purpose is to put energy for agriculture in perspective by presenting numerous national and regional examples of energy usage.Since the early 1970s, world petroleum prices have fluctuated from US$3/barrel to more than US$40/barrel in 1981, and then back to one-third of the peak price today. Consequently, the rural sector depends heavily on non-commercial energy sources. Availability of such energy is highly site-specific. This handbook deals extensively with non-commercial energy - its sources, the technologies for converting energy to more useful gaseous and liquid forms, and its ultimate end-uses.Photographs, tables, line drawings and graphs are used extensively. Over 600 references are listed along with agency names and addresses for obtaining further information.
