Download or read book Advanced Technology And Particle Physics - Proceedings Of The 7th International Conference On Icatpp-7 written by Michele Barone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-11-28 with total page 861 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features up-to-date technology applications to radiation detection. It synthesises several techniques of and approaches to radiation detection, covering a wide range of applications and addressing a large audience of experts and students. Many of the talks are in fact reviews of particular topics often not covered in standard books and other conferences, for instance, the medical physics section. To present these medical physics talks is crucial, since a large fraction of the community in medical physics are from the particle physics community. The same feature is true for astroparticle and space physics, which are relatively new fields. This book is unique in its scope. Except for IEEE, there is no other conference in the world that presents such a wide coverage of advanced technology applied to particle physics. However, unlike IEEE, more room is made in the book for reviews and general talks.

Book Synopsis Minerals in Africa by : Francis Gudyanga
Download or read book Minerals in Africa written by Francis Gudyanga and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa’s dire need to industrialize is universally acknowledged and it is evident that the continent’s vast mineral resources can catalyze that industrialization. This requires the promotion of local beneficiation and value addition of minerals to yield materials on which modern Africa’s industry and society can rely. This book is, therefore, about transforming Africa’s comparative advantages in minerals into the continent’s competitive edge regarding materials. Mineral beneficiation and value addition form the basis and provide opportunities for mineral-driven Africa’s industrialization. The scope of the book is three-fold with inter-connected relationships: Information, Technical, and Policy oriented. It will be a useful reference material for mining undergraduate students on beneficiation and value addition of each of the minerals found in Africa. The book, while presenting a broad overview of beneficiation and value addition of Africa’s minerals, provides crucial starting material for postgraduate research students and R&D institutions who wish to delve into more advanced methods of extraction and utilization of mineral-derived materials that are in Africa for the purpose of industrialization of the continent.
Book Synopsis Molecular Imaging: Computer Reconstruction and Practice by : Yves Lemoigne
Download or read book Molecular Imaging: Computer Reconstruction and Practice written by Yves Lemoigne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-02 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports the majority of lectures given during the NATO Advanced Study Institute ASI-982440, which was held at the European Scienti?c Institute of Archamps (ESI, Archamps – France) from November 9 to November 21, 2006. The ASI course was structured in two parts, the ?rst was dedicated to individual imaging techniques while the second is the object of this volume and focused on data modelling and processing and on image archiving and distribution. Courses devoted to nuclear medicine and digital imaging techniques are collected in a c- plementary volume of NATO Science Series entitled “Physics for Medical Imaging Applications” (ISBN 978-1-4020-5650-5). Every year in autumn ESI organises the European School of Medical Physics, which covers a large spectrum of topics ranging from Medical Imaging to Rad- therapy, over a period of ?ve weeks. Thanks to the Cooperative Science and Te- nology sub-programme of the NATO Science Division, weeks two and three were replaced this year by the ASI course dedicated to “Molecular Imaging from Physical Principles to Computer Reconstruction and Practice”. This allowed the participation ofexpertsandstudentsfrom20differentcountries,withdiverseculturalbackground and professional experience (Africa, America, Asia, and Europe). A further positive outcome of NATO ASI participation is the publication of this book, which contains the lectures series contributed by speakers during the second week of the ASI.
Book Synopsis Particle Physics in the LHC Era by : Giles Barr
Download or read book Particle Physics in the LHC Era written by Giles Barr and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text gives an introduction to particle physics at a level accessible to advanced undergraduate students. It is based on lectures given to 4th year physics students over a number of years, and reflects the feedback from the students. The aim is to explain the theoretical and experimental basis of the Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics with the simplest mathematical treatment possible. All the experimental discoveries that led to the understanding of the SM relied on particle detectors and most of them required advanced particle accelerators. A unique feature of this book is that it gives a serious introduction to the fundamental accelerator and detector physics, which is currently only available in advanced graduate textbooks. The mathematical tools that are required such as group theory are covered in one chapter. A modern treatment of the Dirac equation is given in which the free particle Dirac equation is seen as being equivalent to the Lorentz transformation. The idea of generating the SM interactions from fundamental gauge symmetries is explained. The core of the book covers the SM. The tools developed are used to explain its theoretical basis and a clear discussion is given of the critical experimental evidence which underpins it. A thorough account is given of quark flavour and neutrino oscillations based on published experimental results, including some from running experiments. A simple introduction to the Higgs sector of the SM is given. This explains the key idea of how spontaneous symmetry breaking can generate particle masses without violating the underlying gauge symmetry. A key feature of this book is that it gives an accessible explanation of the discovery of the Higgs boson, including the advanced statistical techniques required. The final chapter gives an introduction to LHC physics beyond the standard model and the techniques used in searches for new physics. There is an outline of the shortcomings of the SM and a discussion of possible solutions and future experiments to resolve these outstanding questions. Book Synopsis Introduction to Particle Physics by : DezsÅ' Horvàth
Download or read book Introduction to Particle Physics written by DezsÅ' Horvàth and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-05 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is a unique treatise on the present status of particle physics summarised for physics students at an introductory level: it provides insights into the essential experimental and theoretical techniques needed to start research at modern high energy accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The first three parts of the book discuss the experimental and phenomenological aspects at a level suitable for MSc students, but BSc students interested in particle physics will also find useful information there. The fourth part is oriented to advanced MSc or PhD students to make them acquainted with the precise formulation of the standard model of particle interactions, as well as with the mathematical background needed for the correct interpretation of the experimental results. In this two-step approach, the book offers a gradually deepening understanding of particle physics, building up the standard model and providing an overview of its verification, together with the necessary theoretical and experimental techniques. Using the example of the simplest present-day experiments, it is explained how one can obtain experimental results and theoretical estimations for measurable quantities from clear basic principles. The sources of uncertainties and the methods of improving precision are also discussed.
