Download or read book Deductive and Object-Oriented Databases written by Stefano Ceri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1993-11-16 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Third International Conference on Deductive and Object-Oriented Databases. Its central tenet is that the object-oriented and deductive paradigms for modeling, organizing, and processing data complement each other, rather than competing, and that problems involving massive volumes of complex data can best be solved by integrating the best of both approaches. Central questions in the area are: - How do we design a tool that presents the best of the object-oriented and declarative ideas? - How can the users of this tool express their problems in a combination of declarative and procedural features? The volume includes 29 papers that contribute towards answering these questions.

Book Synopsis Computational Logic — CL 2000 by : John Lloyd
Download or read book Computational Logic — CL 2000 written by John Lloyd and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-26 with total page 1399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the proceedings of the First International Conference on Compu- tional Logic (CL 2000) which was held at Imperial College in London from 24th to 28th July, 2000. The theme of the conference covered all aspects of the theory, implementation, and application of computational logic, where computational logic is to be understood broadly as the use of logic in computer science. The conference was collocated with the following events: { 6th International Conference on Rules and Objects in Databases (DOOD 2000) { 10th International Workshop on Logic-based Program Synthesis and Tra- formation (LOPSTR 2000) { 10th International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming (ILP 2000). CL 2000 consisted of seven streams: { Program Development (LOPSTR 2000) { Logic Programming: Theory and Extensions { Constraints { Automated Deduction: Putting Theory into Practice { Knowledge Representation and Non-monotonic Reasoning { Database Systems (DOOD 2000) { Logic Programming: Implementations and Applications. The LOPSTR 2000 workshop constituted the program development stream and the DOOD 2000 conference constituted the database systems stream. Each stream had its own chair and program committee, which autonomously selected the papers in the area of the stream. Overall, 176 papers were submitted, of which 86 were selected to be presented at the conference and appear in these proceedings. The acceptance rate was uniform across the streams. In addition, LOPSTR 2000 accepted about 15 extended abstracts to be presented at the conference in the program development stream.
Book Synopsis Active Database Systems by : Jennifer Widom
Download or read book Active Database Systems written by Jennifer Widom and published by Morgan Kaufmann. This book was released on 1995-09 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Active database systems enhance traditional database functionality with powerful rule-processing capabilities, providing a uniform and efficient mechanism for many database system applications. Among these applications are integrity constraints, views, authorization, statistics gathering, monitoring and alerting, knowledge-based systems, expert systems, and workflow management. This significant collection focuses on the most prominent research projects in active database systems. The project leaders for each prototype system provide detailed discussions of their projects and the relevance of their results to the future of active database systems. Features: A broad overview of current active database systems and how they can be extended and improved A comprehensive introduction to the core topics of the field, including its motivation and history Coverage of active database (trigger) capabilities in commercial products Discussion of forthcoming standards
Download or read book SCAI '97 written by G. Grahne and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major theme of this book is Intelligent Agents. An agent is a hardware or software system that is autonomous, interactive with and reactive to its environment and other agents. An agent can also be pro-active in taking the initiative in goal-directed behaviour. Intelligent Agents are one of the most important and exciting areas of research and development in computer science today.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Massive Data Sets by : James Abello
Download or read book Handbook of Massive Data Sets written by James Abello and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-21 with total page 1209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proliferation of massive data sets brings with it a series of special computational challenges. This "data avalanche" arises in a wide range of scientific and commercial applications. With advances in computer and information technologies, many of these challenges are beginning to be addressed by diverse inter-disciplinary groups, that indude computer scientists, mathematicians, statisticians and engineers, working in dose cooperation with application domain experts. High profile applications indude astrophysics, bio-technology, demographics, finance, geographi cal information systems, government, medicine, telecommunications, the environment and the internet. John R. Tucker of the Board on Mathe matical Seiences has stated: "My interest in this problern (Massive Data Sets) isthat I see it as the rnost irnportant cross-cutting problern for the rnathernatical sciences in practical problern solving for the next decade, because it is so pervasive. " The Handbook of Massive Data Sets is comprised of articles writ ten by experts on selected topics that deal with some major aspect of massive data sets. It contains chapters on information retrieval both in the internet and in the traditional sense, web crawlers, massive graphs, string processing, data compression, dustering methods, wavelets, op timization, external memory algorithms and data structures, the US national duster project, high performance computing, data warehouses, data cubes, semi-structured data, data squashing, data quality, billing in the large, fraud detection, and data processing in astrophysics, air pollution, biomolecular data, earth observation and the environment.
Book Synopsis Adaptive Query Processing by : Amol Deshpande
Download or read book Adaptive Query Processing written by Amol Deshpande and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2007 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive Query Processing surveys the fundamental issues, techniques, costs, and benefits of adaptive query processing. It begins with a broad overview of the field, identifying the dimensions of adaptive techniques. It then looks at the spectrum of approaches available to adapt query execution at runtime - primarily in a non-streaming context. The emphasis is on simplifying and abstracting the key concepts of each technique, rather than reproducing the full details available in the papers. The authors identify the strengths and limitations of the different techniques, demonstrate when they are most useful, and suggest possible avenues of future research. Adaptive Query Processing serves as a valuable reference for students of databases, providing a thorough survey of the area. Database researchers will benefit from a more complete point of view, including a number of approaches which they may not have focused on within the scope of their own research.
