Book excerpt: Since its inception in 1997,the EuropeanConferenceon Researchand Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries (ECDL) has come a long way, creating a strong interdisciplinarycommunityofresearchersandpractitionersinthe?eldofdigital libraries. We are proud to present the proceedings of ECDL 2005, the ninth conference in this series, which, following Pisa (1997), Heraklion (1998), Paris (1999), Lisbon (2000), Darmstadt (2001), Rome (2002), Trondheim (2003), and Bath (2004), took place on September 18–23, 2005 in Vienna, Austria. ECDL 2005 featured separate calls for paper and poster submissions, resu- ing in 130 full papers and 32 posters being submitted to the conference. All - pers were subject to a thorough peer-review process, with an 87-person-strong Program Committee and a further 68 additional reviewers from 35 countries from basically all continents sharing the tremendous review load, producing - tween three and four detailed reviews per paper. Based on these, as well as on the discussion that took place during a one-week on-line PC discussion phase, 41 papers were ?nally selected for inclusion in the conference program during a 1. 5 day PC meeting, resulting in an acceptance rate of only 32%. Furthermore, 17 paper submissions were accepted for poster presentations with an additional 13 posters being accepted based on a simpli?ed review process of 2–3 reviews per poster from the poster submission track. Both the full papers as well as extended abstracts of the posters presented at ECDL 2005 are provided in these proceedings.

The Web, for instance, offers ever-changing content and services which can perform activities during document creation. This thesis introduces a solution for collaborative document creation which maps contributions of human and non-human participants to software services. The joint flexible composition and coordination of these services leads to a novel understanding of dynamic Web-based documents.

From cars, smartphones, airplanes, consumer applications, and even medical equipment, the impact of AI is changing the world around us. The ability of machines to demonstrate advanced cognitive skills in taking decisions, learn and perceive the environment, predict certain behavior, and process written or spoken languages, among other skills, makes this discipline of paramount importance in today's world. Although AI is changing the world for the better in many applications, it also comes with its challenges. This book encompasses many applications as well as new techniques, challenges, and opportunities in this fascinating area.

Book excerpt: This book provides techniques for the deployment of semantic technologies in data analysis along with the latest applications across the field such as Internet of Things (IoT). The authors focus on the use of the IoT and big data in business intelligence, data management, Hadoop, machine learning, cloud, smart cities, etc. They discuss how the generation of big data by IoT has ruptured the existing data processing capacity of IoT and recommends the adoption of data analytics to strengthen solutions. The book addresses the challenges in designing the web based IoT system, provides a comparative analysis of different advanced approaches in industries, and contains an analysis of databases to provide expert systems. The book aims to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers, and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of IoT and big data analytics.

Book excerpt: As a vibrant area of computer science which continues to develop rapidly, AI is a field in which fresh ideas and new perspectives are of particular interest. This book presents the proceedings of the 8th European Starting AI Researcher Symposium (STAIRS 2016), held as a satellite event of the 22nd European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI) in The Hague, the Netherlands, in August 2016. What is unique about the STAIRS symposium is that the principal author of every submitted paper must be a young researcher who either does not yet hold a Ph.D., or who has obtained their Ph.D. during the year before the submission deadline for papers. The book contains 21 accepted papers; Part I includes the 11 long papers which were presented orally at the symposium, and Part II the remaining long and short papers presented in poster sessions. These papers cover the entire field of AI, with social intelligence and socio-cognitive systems, machine learning and data mining, autonomous agents and multiagent systems, being the areas which attracted the largest number of submissions. There is a good balance between foundational issues and AI applications, and the problems tackled range widely from classical AI themes such as planning and scheduling or natural language processing, to questions related to decision theory and games, as well as to other newly emerging areas. Providing a tantalizing glimpse of the work of AI researchers of the future, the book will be of interest to all those wishing to keep abreast of this exciting and fascinating field.

Book excerpt: Artificial Intelligence Methods for Optimization of the Software Testing Process: With Practical Examples and Exercises presents different AI-based solutions for overcoming the uncertainty found in many initial testing problems. The concept of intelligent decision making is presented as a multi-criteria, multi-objective undertaking. The book provides guidelines on how to manage diverse types of uncertainty with intelligent decision-making that can help subject matter experts in many industries improve various processes in a more efficient way. As the number of required test cases for testing a product can be large (in industry more than 10,000 test cases are usually created). Executing all these test cases without any particular order can impact the results of the test execution, hence this book fills the need for a comprehensive resource on the topics on the how's, what's and whys. To learn more about Elsevier's Series, Uncertainty, Computational Techniques and Decision Intelligence, please visit this link: https://www.elsevier.com/books-and-journals/book-series/uncertainty-computational-techniques-and-decision-intelligence - Presents one of the first empirical studies in the field, contrasting theoretical assumptions on innovations in a real industrial environment with a large set of use cases from developed and developing testing processes at various large industries - Explores specific comparative methodologies, focusing on developed and developing AI-based solutions - Serves as a guideline for conducting industrial research in the artificial intelligence and software testing domain - Explains all proposed solutions through real industrial case studies

This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the research contributions presented at the 14th International Conference on Computing and Information Technology (IC2IT 2018) organised by King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok and its partners, and held in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai in July 2018. Traditionally, IC2IT 2018 provides a forum for exchange on the state of the art and on expected future developments in its field. Correspondingly, this book contains chapters on topics in data mining, machine learning, natural language processing, image processing, networks and security, software engineering and information technology. With them, the editors want to foster inspiring discussions among colleagues, not only during the conference. It is also intended to contribute to a deeper understanding of the underlying problems as needed to solve them in complex environments and, beneficial for this purpose, to encourage interdisciplinary cooperation.
