Download or read book UM99 User Modeling written by Judy Kay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: User modeling researchers look for ways of enabling interactive software systems to adapt to their users-by constructing, maintaining, and exploiting user models, which are representations of properties of individual users. User modeling has been found to enhance the effectiveness and/or usability of software systems in a wide variety of situations. Techniques for user modeling have been developed and evaluated by researchers in a number of fields, including artificial intelligence, education, psychology, linguistics, human-computer interaction, and information science. The biennial series of International Conferences on User Modeling provides a forum in which academic and industrial researchers from all of these fields can exchange their complementary insights on user modeling issues. The published proceedings of these conferences represent a major source of information about developments in this area.
Book Synopsis Human-Centred Web Adaptation and Personalization by : Panagiotis Germanakos
Download or read book Human-Centred Web Adaptation and Personalization written by Panagiotis Germanakos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-19 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the importance of adaptation and personalization in today’s society and the upgraded role computational systems and the Internet play in our day-to-day activities. In this era of wireless communication, pervasive computing and the Internet of Things, it is becoming increasingly critical to ensure humans remain central in the developmental process of new technologies to guarantee their continued usefulness and a positive end-user experience. Organized into three clear parts - theory, principles and practice, a holistic approach to designing and developing adaptive interactive systems and services has been adopted. With an emphasis on distinct human factors, both basic and applied research topics are explored, extending from human-centred user models, driven by user’s individual differences in cognitive processing and emotions, to the creation of smart interfaces that can handle the ever increasing volume and complexity of information to the benefit of the end-user. Human-Centred Web Adaptation and Personalization – From Theory to Practice is meticulously crafted to serve researchers, practitioners, and students who wish to have an end-to-end understanding of how to convert pure research and scientific results into viable user interfaces, system components and applications. It will serve to bridge the knowledge gap that still remains by suggesting interaction design and implementation guidelines for areas like E-Commerce, E-Learning and Usable Security.

This book was released on 2024-01-02 with total page 771 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. The 3rd International Conference on Digital Economy and Computer Applications (DECA 2023) will be held on September 22–24, 2023 in Shanghai, China. Digital economy is the main economic form after agricultural economy and industrial economy. It takes data resources as the key element, modern information network as the main carrier, and the integration and application of information and communication technology and all-factor digital transformation as the important driving force to promote a new economic form that is more unified in fairness and efficiency. The essence of digital economy is informationization. Informatization is a social and economic process caused by the revolution of production tools, such as computer and Internet, from industrial economy to information economy. The theme of the conference mainly focuses on digital economy and computer applications and other related research fields, aiming to provide an international cooperation and exchange platform for experts and scholars in related research fields and enterprise development personnel to share research results, discuss existing problems and challenges, and explore cutting-edge technologies. We sincerely invite experts and scholars from universities and research institutions at home and abroad, entrepreneurs and other relevant personnel to contribute and participate in the conference. The DECA 2023 is accepting papers for proceeding publication. We accept contributions from those who care about exploring and enhancing the research and innovation in Digital Economy and Computer Applications in the world. The directions of the call for papers are as follows: Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Service-Oriented and Cloud, Industry Track, Deliver the Intelligent Enterprise, Mobile business and Autonomous Computing and other papers in line with the direction of digital economy and computer applications. We welcome submissions from scholars, students, and practitioners across many disciplines that contribute to the study and practice of Digital Economy and Computer Applications.

Book Synopsis User Models in Dialog Systems by : Alfred Kobsa
Download or read book User Models in Dialog Systems written by Alfred Kobsa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: User models have recently attracted much research interest in the field of artificial intelligence dialog systems. It has become evident that flexible user-oriented dialog behavior of such systems can be achieved only if the system has access to a model of the user containing assumptions about his/her background knowledge as well as his/her goals and plans in consulting the system. Research in the field of user models investigates how such assumptions can be automatically created, represented and exploited by the system in the course of an "on-line" interaction with the user. The communication medium in this interaction need not necessarily be a natural language, such as English or German. Formal interaction languages are also permit ted. The emphasis is placed on systems with natural language input and output, however. A dozen major and several more minor user modeling systems have been de signed and implemented in the last decade, mostly in the context of natural-language dialog systems. The goal of UM86, the first international workshop on user model ing, was to bring together the researchers working on these projects so that results could be discussed and analyzed, and hopefully general insights be found, that could prove useful for future research. The meeting took place in Maria Laach, a small village some 40 miles south of Bonn, West Germany. 25 prominent researchers were invited to participate.
