Book excerpt: The large carnivores reign supreme in the African wild - superior, powerful, skillful and feared. From the big cats to the endangered wild dog and Ethiopian wolf, the often-maligned hyenas and the opportunistic jackel, these hunters captivate, fascinate and excite, and provide the raw drama of Africa, sought after by many wildlife lovers. This text brings many years of study and practical research in revealing the origins, the present struggle for survival and the uncertain future of Africa's predatory mammals. The examination of their behaviour, social make-up, relations and interactions is supported by dramatic photography.

Download or read book September 11 Fiction of Matrix written by Faruk Arslan and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2005-08-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was inspired by Hollywood movie in giving a name to this book. Matrix is the name of a fake world which is believed to be fictitious. September 11 was a starting point which differentiates between those who resist and those who don't and between those who believe and those who don't. I agree with war on terrorism, blame all kind of terrorist and terror acts, but I disagree with the fiction of Matrix. Absolutely, Al Qaeda is a terrorist organization and Laden is the mastermind of terrorism. Thank you Canada. I am proud of being Canadian, otherwise I would not feel free to write this book in US. Book Synopsis The Politics of National Security by : Marcus G. Raskin
Download or read book The Politics of National Security written by Marcus G. Raskin and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1979-01-01 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of the national security state in the United States can be traced from the political, military, and economic dimensions of American power in the postwar world. In Raskin's view, the United States emerged from the Second World War with tremendously increased prestige and material power, and American leadership created a national security apparatus as a planning instrument to ensure national stability, to mute class conflicts, and to secure the domestic economy. This state then became the basis around the world for covert and overt imperialism. The consensus that developed served to maintain stability at home and to guide the modern empire abroad. This development required a state that was orderly and that was predicated on modern bureaucracy, which operated within the values and assumptions of the ruling elites. The national security state system was successful primarily in the economic sphere, with bipartisan foreign-policy decision making aimed at ensuring a stable business climate at home and abroad. Military involvement in Indochina evidenced the decline of American hegemony; the genocidal nature of the arms race and the questions raised by protestors of the sixties signaled the break up of the national security consensus. Raskin concludes the book with an examination of alternative directions, especially regarding the need and the possibilities for renewed public debate of national policy and purpose.
