Book Synopsis Moving Objects Management by : Xiaofeng Meng
Download or read book Moving Objects Management written by Xiaofeng Meng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an age of rapid technological development. The Internet already affects our lives in many ways. Indeed, we continue to depend more, and more intrinsically, on the Internet, which is increasingly becoming a fundamental piece of societal infrastructure, just as water supply, electricity grids, and transportation networks have been for a long time. But while these other infrastructures are relatively static, the Internet is undergoing swift and fundamental change: Notably, the Internet is going mobile. The world has some 6.7 billion humans, 4 billion mobile phones, and 1.7 billion Internet users. The two most populous continents, Asia and Africa, have relatively low Internet penetration and hold the greatest potentials for growth. Their mobile phone users by far outnumber their Internet users, and the numbers are growing rapidly. China and India are each gaining about half a dozen million new phone users per month. Users across the globe as a whole increasingly embrace mobile Internet devices, with smart phone sales are starting to outnumber PC sales. Indeed, these and other facts suggest that the Internet stands to gain a substantial mobile component. This mega trend towards “mobile” is enabled by rapid and continuing advances in key technology areas such as mobile communication, consumer electronics, g- positioning, and computing. In short, this is the backdrop for this very timely book on moving objects by Xiaofeng Meng and Jidong Chen.
Book Synopsis Foundations and Advances in Data Mining by : Wesley Chu
Download or read book Foundations and Advances in Data Mining written by Wesley Chu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-09-15 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the growing use of information technology and the recent advances in web systems, the amount of data available to users has increased exponentially. Thus, there is a critical need to understand the content of the data. As a result, data-mining has become a popular research topic in recent years for the treatment of the "data rich and information poor" syndrome. In this carefully edited volume a theoretical foundation as well as important new directions for data-mining research are presented. It brings together a set of well respected data mining theoreticians and researchers with practical data mining experiences. The presented theories will give data mining practitioners a scientific perspective in data mining and thus provide more insight into their problems, and the provided new data mining topics can be expected to stimulate further research in these important directions.

Book Synopsis New Trends in Data Warehousing and Data Analysis by : Stanisław Kozielski
Download or read book New Trends in Data Warehousing and Data Analysis written by Stanisław Kozielski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-21 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of modern enterprises, institutions, and organizations rely on knowledge-based management systems. In these systems, knowledge is gained from data analysis. Today, knowledge-based management systems include data warehouses as their core components. Data integrated in a data warehouse are analyzed by the so-called On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications designed to discover trends, patterns of behavior, and anomalies as well as finding dependencies between data. Massive amounts of integrated data and the complexity of integrated data coming from many different sources make data integration and processing challenging. New Trends in Data Warehousing and Data Analysis brings together the most recent research and practical achievements in the DW and OLAP technologies. It provides an up-to-date bibliography of published works and the resource of research achievements. Finally, the book assists in the dissemination of knowledge in the field of advanced DW and OLAP.

Book Synopsis Databases and Information Systems VIII by : A. Kalja
Download or read book Databases and Information Systems VIII written by A. Kalja and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2014-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Databases and information systems are the backbone of modern information technology and are crucial to the IT systems which support all aspects of our everyday life; from government, education and healthcare, to business processes and the storage of our personal photos and archives. This book presents 22 of the best revised papers accepted following stringent peer review for the 11th International Baltic Conference on Databases and Information Systems (Baltic DB&IS 2014), held in Tallinn, Estonia, in June 2014. The conference provided a forum for the exchange of scientific achievements between the research communities of the Baltic countries and the rest of the world in the area of databases and information systems, bringing together researchers, practitioners and Ph.D. students from many countries. The subject areas covered at the conference focused on big data processing, data warehouses, data integration and services, data and knowledge management, e-government, as well as e-services and e-learning.
Book Synopsis Data Clustering by : Charu C. Aggarwal
Download or read book Data Clustering written by Charu C. Aggarwal and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on the problem of clustering tends to be fragmented across the pattern recognition, database, data mining, and machine learning communities. Addressing this problem in a unified way, Data Clustering: Algorithms and Applications provides complete coverage of the entire area of clustering, from basic methods to more refined and complex data clustering approaches. It pays special attention to recent issues in graphs, social networks, and other domains. The book focuses on three primary aspects of data clustering: Methods, describing key techniques commonly used for clustering, such as feature selection, agglomerative clustering, partitional clustering, density-based clustering, probabilistic clustering, grid-based clustering, spectral clustering, and nonnegative matrix factorization Domains, covering methods used for different domains of data, such as categorical data, text data, multimedia data, graph data, biological data, stream data, uncertain data, time series clustering, high-dimensional clustering, and big data Variations and Insights, discussing important variations of the clustering process, such as semisupervised clustering, interactive clustering, multiview clustering, cluster ensembles, and cluster validation In this book, top researchers from around the world explore the characteristics of clustering problems in a variety of application areas. They also explain how to glean detailed insight from the clustering process—including how to verify the quality of the underlying clusters—through supervision, human intervention, or the automated generation of alternative clusters.
