Book Synopsis Morphogenetic Engineering by : René Doursat
Download or read book Morphogenetic Engineering written by René Doursat and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generally, spontaneous pattern formation phenomena are random and repetitive, whereas elaborate devices are the deterministic product of human design. Yet, biological organisms and collective insect constructions are exceptional examples of complex systems that are both self-organized and architectural. This book is the first initiative of its kind toward establishing a new field of research, Morphogenetic Engineering, to explore the modeling and implementation of “self-architecturing” systems. Particular emphasis is placed on the programmability and computational abilities of self-organization, properties that are often underappreciated in complex systems science—while, conversely, the benefits of self-organization are often underappreciated in engineering methodologies. Altogether, the aim of this work is to provide a framework for and examples of a larger class of “self-architecturing” systems, while addressing fundamental questions such as br” How do biological organisms carry out morphogenetic tasks so reliably? br” Can we extrapolate their self-formation capabilities to engineered systems?br” Can physical systems be endowed with information (or informational systems be embedded in physics) so as to create autonomous morphologies and functions?br” What are the core principles and best practices for the design and engineering of such morphogenetic systems?

Book Synopsis Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems: From Design to Implementation by : Lyes Benyoucef
Download or read book Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems: From Design to Implementation written by Lyes Benyoucef and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-19 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops innovative techniques from operational research and management science for the design and implementation of a reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS), and subsequently analyzes and assesses their performance. A reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS) is a paradigm that can address many of the challenges posed by the modern market. Accordingly, substantial research is now being conducted on RMS, focusing on various levels of decision-making (strategic, tactical and operational). However, as a relatively new research area, there are still only very few books and articles available on reconfigurable manufacturing system design and management. In addition to filling that gap, this book provides a forum for investigating, exchanging ideas on, and disseminating the latest advances in the broad area of RMS applications in today’s industry. Gathering contributions by experts from academia, industry and policy-making, it represents an essential contribution to the existing literature on manufacturing and logistics in general and industry 4.0 in particular.

Book Synopsis Cable-Driven Parallel Robots by : Andreas Pott
Download or read book Cable-Driven Parallel Robots written by Andreas Pott and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-27 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cable-driven parallel robots are a new kind of lightweight manipulators with excellent scalability in terms of size, payload, and dynamics capacities. For the first time, a comprehensive compendium is presented of the field of cable-driven parallel robots. A thorough theory of cable robots is setup leading the reader from first principles to the latest results in research. The main topics covered in the book are classification, terminology, and fields of application for cable-driven parallel robots. The geometric foundation of the standard cable model is introduced followed by statics, force distribution, and stiffness. Inverse and forward kinematics are addressed by elaborating efficient algorithms. Furthermore, the workspace is introduced and different algorithms are detailed. The book contains the dynamic equations as well as simulation models with applicable parameters. Advanced cable models are described taking into account pulleys, elastic cables, and sagging cables. For practitioner, a descriptive design method is stated including methodology, parameter synthesis, construction design, component selection, and calibration. Rich examples are presented by means of simulation results from sample robots as well as experimental validation on reference demonstrators. The book contains a representative overview of reference demonstrator system. Tables with physical parameters for geometry, cable properties, and robot parameterizations support case studies and are valuable references for building custom cable robots. For scientist, the book provides the starting point to address new scientific challenges as open problems are named and a commented review of the literature on cable robot with more than 500 references are given.

Book Synopsis Skill-Based reconfiguration of industrial mobile robots by : Stefanie Angerer
Download or read book Skill-Based reconfiguration of industrial mobile robots written by Stefanie Angerer and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2012-07-23 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Caused by a rising mass customisation and the high variety of equipment versions, the flexibility of manufacturing systems in car production has to be increased. In this thesis a skill-based reconfiguration mechanism is presented to enhance functional reconfigurability of industrial mobile robots. A novel reconfiguration mechanism allows to react self-organised to functional process changes. The result of this mechanism is the on-line integration of new robot functionalities into the current manufacturing process while maintaining the productivity of the mobile robot. Applied to an industrial mobile robot that is provided by AUDI AG, the suggested mechanism is validated in a real-world environment including the on-line verification of the reconfigured robot functionality in a Validity Check.
