Book Synopsis Essays in Honor of William N. Kinnard, Jr. by : C.F. Sirmans
Download or read book Essays in Honor of William N. Kinnard, Jr. written by C.F. Sirmans and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first section of the book contains seven original essays, arranged in order to coincide with Bill's (chronological) professional career. These essays cover a wide variety of real estate topics, including valuation theory, definition of market value, market analysis, the appraisal process, role of the appraiser as an expert witness, valuation under environmental contamination, and international real estate issues. The second section of the book reprints eleven of Bill's most influential papers, selected with the help of forty of his colleagues. These articles, written by Bill and various co-authors, represent only a portion of his contributions to real estate theory and practice. They are "classics" in real estate education. The final section contains personal reflections by colleagues, family and friends of Bill. One of Bill's most influential publications is his classic text, "Income Property Valuation", and is frequently cited in the testimonials. These testimonials provide clear evidence that Bill was an excellent teacher and real estate professional. He truly cared about his students and colleagues and worked hard to move the real estate profession forward.

Book Synopsis Developing International EFL/ESL Scholarly Writers by : Donna Bain Butler
Download or read book Developing International EFL/ESL Scholarly Writers written by Donna Bain Butler and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study had a research purpose and a pedagogical purpose. Research disclosed the dynamic, changing nature of (learner-internal and learner-external) variables that influence strategic competence for developing EFL/ESL writers. This competence was found necessary for international graduate students to move from writer-centered learning to reader-centered communication. The research instruments proved to be practical tools for guiding learners' processes of learning and writing a scholarly paper or article and avoiding plagiarism. The implication for teachers and program administrators is a systematic approach for developing self-regulation (control) in EFL/ESL writing. The first part of the book reports on the mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) research. The second part gives an in-depth report of the 6 cases used in the research. The third part presents tools for systematically developing self-regulation in scholarly (and academic) writing with (a) student and teacher checklists for formative assessment that are valid and reliable; and (b) a model syllabus for teachers that can be adapted across disciplines and genres. These tools deal with learning strategies and their applications to writing and writing instruction.
Book Synopsis The 2000 Census by : National Research Council
Download or read book The 2000 Census written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-04-30 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decennial census was the federal government's largest and most complex peacetime operation. This report of a panel of the National Research Council's Committee on National Statistics comprehensively reviews the conduct of the 2000 census and the quality of the resulting data. The panel's findings cover the planning process for 2000, which was marked by an atmosphere of intense controversy about the proposed role of statistical techniques in the census enumeration and possible adjustment for errors in counting the population. The report addresses the success and problems of major innovations in census operations, the completeness of population coverage in 2000, and the quality of both the basic demographic data collected from all census respondents and the detailed socioeconomic data collected from the census long-form sample (about one-sixth of the population). The panel draws comparisons with the 1990 experience and recommends improvements in the planning process and design for 2010. The 2000 Census: Counting Under Adversity will be an invaluable resource for users of the 2000 data and for policymakers and census planners. It provides a trove of information about the issues that have fueled debate about the census process and about the operations and quality of the nation's twenty-second decennial enumeration.

Examining cultural conflict and communication between social groups and classes in industrial societies, he identifies the way individuals strive to create memories in order to make sense of their lives, and evaluates the impact of the fieldwork experience on the consciousness of the researcher. By recovering the value of the story-telling experience, Portelli's work makes delightful reading for the specialist and non-specialist alike.
