Book Synopsis Community Development and Public Administration Theory by : Ashley E. Nickels
Download or read book Community Development and Public Administration Theory written by Ashley E. Nickels and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of community development is often misunderstood, holding different meanings across different academic disciplines. Moreover, the concept of community development has been historically abstracted, not only in the way the concept has been conceptualized in academic studies, but also by the way in which practitioners use the term in the vernacular. Departing from traditional definitions of community development, this volume applies the New Public Service (NPS) perspective of Public Administration to community development to illustrate how public administrators and public managers can engage in community development planning and implementation that results in more equitable and sustainable long-term outcomes. This book will be of interest to practitioners and researchers in public administration/management, public administration theory, community development, economic development, urban sociology, urban politics, and urban planning.

Book Synopsis Models in Archaeology by : David L. Clarke
Download or read book Models in Archaeology written by David L. Clarke and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major study reflects the increasing significance of careful model formation and testing in those academic subjects that are struggling from intuitive and aesthetic obscurantism toward a more disciplined and integrated approach to their fields of study. The twenty-six original contributions represent the carefully selected work of progressive archaeologists around the world, covering the use of models on archaeological material of all kinds and from all periods from Palaeolithic to Medieval. Their common theme is archaeological generalisation by means of explicit model building, testing, modification and reapplication. The contributors seek to show that it is the use of certain models in particular ways that defines archaeology as the practice of one discipline, with a set of general tenets that are as applicable in Peru as in Persia, Australia as Alaska, Sweden as Scotland, on material from the second millennium B.C. to the second millennium A.D. They assert that careful model formulation within archaeology and the cautious exchange and testing of models within and beyond the discipline provides the only route to the formation of the common, internationally valid body of theory which defines a vigorous and coherent discipline and distinguishes it from being a collection of merely regionally applicable special cases.

Book Synopsis Disorders of Executive Functions by : Harold V. Hall
Download or read book Disorders of Executive Functions written by Harold V. Hall and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The demands and expectations of a psychologist or neuropsychologist in a courtroom are different from those in a clinical practice. The challenges to and scrutiny of one's basic credentials, training, expertise, and conclusions can be intimidating. The contributors of Disorders of Executive Functions display obvious knowledge of these demands and challenges. Law and neuropsychology of executive functions will be increasingly intertwined as findings are applied to forensic settings and situations. In instances where executive impairment is suspected, this book will assist the forensic evaluator to demonstrate the relationship between frontal lobe impairment and criminal/civil behavior. Disorders of Executive Functions was written not only for professionals in psychology and neuropsychology, but also for plaintiff and defense attorneys and judges, rehabilitation and insurance professionals. Specific, on-point issues are addressed within each chapter with specific references and suggested readings. This source book presents realistic examples and case studies, then prepares the reader for litigation situations. Heavily illustrated, it provides numerous checklists, tables, and interview formats. Sample tests and evaluation, an extensive glossary, and an exhaustive list of core readings are also included.
