Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning Classifier Systems (LCS) are a machine learning paradigm introduced by John Holland in 1976. They are rule-based systems in which learning is viewed as a process of ongoing adaptation to a partially unknown environment through genetic algorithms and temporal difference learning. This book provides a unique survey of the current state of the art of LCS and highlights some of the most promising research directions. The first part presents various views of leading people on what learning classifier systems are. The second part is devoted to advanced topics of current interest, including alternative representations, methods for evaluating rule utility, and extensions to existing classifier system models. The final part is dedicated to promising applications in areas like data mining, medical data analysis, economic trading agents, aircraft maneuvering, and autonomous robotics. An appendix comprising 467 entries provides a comprehensive LCS bibliography.

This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is the product of conferences held in Bielefeld at the Center for interdisciplinary Sturlies (ZiF) in connection with a year-long ZiF Research Group with the theme "Prerational intelligence". The premise ex plored by the research group is that traditional notions of intelligent behav ior, which form the basis for much work in artificial intelligence and cog nitive science, presuppose many basic capabilities which are not trivial, as more recent work in robotics and neuroscience has shown, and that these capabilities may be best understood as ernerging from interaction and coop eration in systems of simple agents, elements that accept inputs from and act upon their surroundings. The main focus is on the way animals and artificial systems process in formation about their surroundings in order to move and act adaptively. The analysis of the collective properties of systems of interacting agents, how ever, is a problern that occurs repeatedly in many disciplines. Therefore, contributions from a wide variety of areas have been included in order to obtain a broad overview of phenomena that demoostrate complexity arising from simple interactions or can be described as adaptive behavior arising from the collective action of groups of agents. To this end we have invited contributions on topics ranging from the development of complex structures and functions in systems ranging from cellular automata, genetic codes, and neural connectivity to social behavior and evolution. Additional contribu tions discuss traditional concepts of intelligence and adaptive behavior. 1.

Book Synopsis Pulse-width Modulated DC-DC Power Converters by : Marian K. Kazimierczuk
Download or read book Pulse-width Modulated DC-DC Power Converters written by Marian K. Kazimierczuk and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) in great detail. This type of converter changes an unregulated DC voltage into a high-frequency pulse-width modulated (PWM) voltage controlled by varying the duty cycle, then changes the PWM AC voltage to a regulated DC voltage at a high efficiency by rectification and filtering. Used to supply electronic circuits, this converter saves energy and space in the overall system. With concept-orientated explanations, this book offers state-of-the-art SMPS technology and promotes an understanding of the principle operations of PWM converters, as well as enabling the readers to evaluate their characteristics. Design-orientated analysis (including a steady-state analysis for both continuous and discontinuous conduction modes) and numerous real-world practical examples (including circuit models of the PWM converters) demonstrate how to design these from scratch. The book provides an in-depth presentation of topologies of PWM DC-DC power converters, voltage- and current-mode control of PWM DC–DC power converters, considers power losses in all components, device stresses, output voltage ripple, converter efficiency and power factor correction (PFC). It also includes extensive coverage of the following: topologies of high-efficiency switching-mode PWM and soft-switching DC-DC power converters; DC voltage transfer functions (conversion ratios), component values, losses, efficiency, and stresses; small-signal averaged circuit models; current-mode and voltage-mode feedback controls; metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect power transistors (MOSFETs); silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices. Before now, there has been no book that covers silicon carbide devices. Pulse-width Modulated DC-DC Power Converters is a comprehensive textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students in the areas of electrical, electronics, and telecommunications engineering. It includes end-of-chapter review questions, problems, and thorough summaries of the key concepts to aid learning, and a Solutions Manual is available for professors. Scientists and practicing design engineers working with SMPS, within such applications as computers, telecommunications, industrial systems, automobile electronics, medical equipment, aerospace power technology, and radars (amongst others) will also find this text insightful.

Book Synopsis Test Signal Generation for Service Diagnosis Based on Local Structure Graphs by : Michael Ungermann
Download or read book Test Signal Generation for Service Diagnosis Based on Local Structure Graphs written by Michael Ungermann and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work considers the problem of identifying the fault in a faulty dynamical system on the basis of the system's input and output signals only. For this purpose, a model-based method for the design of diagnostic tests which consist of specific input signals and appropriate residual generators is developed. The method extends the structure graph of dynamical systems in order to represent the couplings in a system which has been brought to a specific operating region. The resulting local structure graph is used to determine specific residual generators which can distinguish between faults on the basis of the system's input and output signals in the corresponding operating region. Algorithms to determine advantageous operating regions and input signals which drive the system into such operating regions are given. The application of the method to determine diagnostic tests is demonstrated using a typical automotive system, a throttle valve.
