Book Synopsis Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils by : Paolo Beccarelli
Download or read book Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils written by Paolo Beccarelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a well-structured, critical review of current design practice for tensioned membrane structures, including a detailed analysis of the experimental data required and critical issues relating to the lack of a set of design codes and testing procedures. The technical requirements for biaxial testing equipment are analyzed in detail, and aspects that need to be considered when developing biaxial testing procedures are emphasized. The analysis is supported by the results of a round-robin exercise comparing biaxial testing machines that involved four of the main research laboratories in the field. The biaxial testing devices and procedures presently used in Europe are extensively discussed, and information is provided on the design and implementation of a biaxial testing rig for architectural fabrics at Politecnico di Milano, which represents a benchmark in the field. The significance of the most recent developments in biaxial testing is also explored.

Book Synopsis Testing of Metallic and Inorganic Coatings by : William B. Harding
Download or read book Testing of Metallic and Inorganic Coatings written by William B. Harding and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1987 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coatings are tested to confirm compliance with specifications, to monitor the operation of a coating process, and to evaluate coatings for various services. The ability of a coating to perform as intended usually depends on several characteristics, and the testing of a coating usually involves several different tests. At first glance the nature of a characteristic that is being tested may seem clear and the results of a test may seem to be unambiguous, however, the nature of a characteristic my be more complex than realized and the ability of a test to measure the characteristic may be less than expected. The members of the ASTM Committee B-8 on Metallic and Inorganic Coatings felt it was desirable to organize a symposium on the testing of the metallic and inorganic coatings so as to bring these problems to the attention of practitioners. This publication is based on the symposium, which was presented in Chicago on April 14 and 15, 1986.

Book Synopsis Thin-sheet Rolling by : F. C. Holden
Download or read book Thin-sheet Rolling written by F. C. Holden and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Committee on Metalworking Processes and Equipment of the Materials Advisory Board conducted an informal symposium on thin-sheet rolling on March 18, 1965, in Washington, D.C. The objective was to assist the MAB Committee in formulating recommendations to the Government through the interchange of ideas and opinions with individuals having both breadth and diversity of background and experience in the production and application of thin sheet. This report presents the texts of the four invited papers and a transcript of the discussions that followed the presentations. The four papers presented were: Refractory Metals Foil Processing A Status Report; Considerations in the Processing of Specialty Metal Foil; Engineering Application of Metal Foil; and Problems in the Application of Metal Foil. A summary of the highlights of the papers and discussion is included in this report. (Author).
Book Synopsis Performance and Durability of High Temperature Foil Air Bearings for Oil-Free Turbomachinery by : C. DellaCorte
Download or read book Performance and Durability of High Temperature Foil Air Bearings for Oil-Free Turbomachinery written by C. DellaCorte and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The performance and durability of advanced, high temperature foil air bearings are evaluated under a wide range (10-50 kPa) of loads at temperatures from 25 to 650 deg C. The bearings are made from uncoated nickel based superalloy foils. The foil surface experiences sliding contact with the shaft during initial start/stop operation. To reduce friction and wear, the solid lubricant coating, PS 304, is applied to the shaft by plasma spraying. PS304 is a NiCr based Cr2O3 coating with silver and barium fluoride/calcium fluoride solid lubricant additions. The results show that the bearings provide lives well in excess of 30,000 cycles under all of the conditions tested. Several bearings exhibited lives in excess of 100,000 cycles. Wear is a linear function of the bearing load. The excellent performance measured in this study suggests that these bearings and the PS 304 coating are well suited for advanced high temperature, oil-free turbomachinery applications.
