The social sciences have been accumulating knowledge since the early fifties as to how we are regulated by others. S. Milgram, S. Ashe, P. Zimbardo and J. Calhoun, detail the vulnerability to being duped and deceived and the difficulty of cooperating when values differ. Murray Bowen, M.D., the first researcher to observe several live-in families, for up to three years, at the National Institute of Mental Health. Describing how family members overly influence one another and distribute stress unevenly, Bowen described both how symptoms and family leaders emerge in highly stressed families. Our brain is not organized to automatically perceive that each family has an emotional system, fine-tuned by evolution and "valuing" its survival as a whole, as much as the survival of any individual. It is easier to see this emotional system function in ants or mice but not in humans. The emotional system is organized to snooker us humans: encouraging us to take sides, run away from others, to pressure others, to get sick, to blame others, and to have great difficulty in seeing our part in problems. It is hard to see that we become anxious, stressed out and even that we are difficult to deal with. But "thinking systems" can open the doors of perception, allowing us to experience the world in a different way. This book offers both coaching ideas and stories from leaders as to strategies to break out from social control by de-triangling, using paradoxes, reversals and other types of interruptions of highly linked emotional processes. Time is needed to think clearly about the automatic nature of the two against one triangle. Time and experience is required as we learn strategies to put two people together and get self outside the control of the system. In addition, it takes time to clarify and define one's principles, to know what "I" will or will not do and to be able to take a stand with others with whom we are very involved. The good news is that systems' thinking is possible for anyone. It is always possible for an individual to understand feelings and to integrate them with their more rational brains. In so doing, an individual increases his or her ability to communicate despite misunderstandings or even rejection from important others. The effort involved in creating your Mindful Compass enables us to perceive the relationship system without experiencing it's threats. The four points on the Mindful Compass are: 1) Action for Self, 2) Resistance to Forward Progress, 3) Knowledge of Social Systems and the 4) The Ability to Stand Alone. Each gives us a view of the process one enters when making an effort to define a self and build an emotional backbone. It is not easy to find our way through the social jungle. The ability to know emotional systems well enough to take a position for self and to become more differentiated is part of the natural way humans cope with pressure. Now people can use available knowledge to build an emotional backbone, by thoughtfully altering their part in the relationship system. No one knows how far one can go by making an effort to be more of a self-defined individual in relationships to others. Through increasing emotional maturity, we can find greater individual freedom at the same time that we increase our ability to cooperate and to be close to others.

The poets considered here rebel against the strict confines of traditional and contemporary poetry and attempt to create radically new discursive practices. Snow (1960), Cantor’s Dilemma by Carl Djerassi (1989), Perlmann’s Silence by Pascal Mercier (1995), Intuition by Allegra Goodman (2006), Solar by Ian McEwan (2010) and Derailment by Diederik Stapel (2012). Scientific misconduct, i.e. fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, but also other questionable research practices, have become a focus of concern for academic communities worldwide, but also for managers, funders and publishers of research. The aforementioned novels offer intriguing windows into integrity challenges emerging in contemporary research practices. They are analysed from a continental philosophical perspective, providing a stage where various voices, positions and modes of discourse are mutually exposed to one another, so that they critically address and question one another. They force us to start from the admission that we do not really know what misconduct is. Subsequently, by providing case histories of misconduct, they address integrity challenges not only in terms of individual deviance but also in terms of systemic crisis, due to current transformations in the ways in which knowledge is produced. Rather than functioning as moral vignettes, the author argues that misconduct novels challenge us to reconsider some of the basic conceptual building blocks of integrity discourse. This book provides the first in-depth examination of a representative range of contemporary Colombian cultural engagements with the conflicts known simply as La Violencia that began in Colombia in the late 1940s. These include Gustavo Alvarez Gardeazábal's now classic revision of the 'novela de la Violencia', the autobiographical cycle of acclaimed author Fernando Vallejo, versions of the testimonio by Alfredo Molano and internationally renowned novelist Laura Restrepo, as well as cinematic works by Carlos Mayolo and Luis Ospina. These cultural icons, many of whom are remarkably understudied, show how the heterogeneity of social and cultural processes condensed in La Violencia demands a deconstruction of 'violence' in Colombian culture. This argument is developed in dialogue with European and Latin American cultural theory and contributes to theoretical debates surrounding issues of memory and mourning developed in other Latin American contexts. The narratives explored in this book provide alternatives to abstract historicism and show us how to imagine ways out of deeply rooted cycles of violence. Yet their insistence on haunting and spectres signals the problems besetting the task of mourning in Colombia, positing history rather than psychology as a remainder that troubles efforts to forge collective memories and enact social reconciliation. Book excerpt: Introduction La schizophrénie est un trouble mental sévère et chronique qui touche plus de 23 millions de personnes dans le monde et 0,5 à 1% de la population française. L'espérance de vie des patients schizophrènes est réduite de 15 ans par rapport à la population générale, en raison de la surmortalité en particulier par suicides, cancers, maladies cardiovasculaires, pathologies respiratoires et addictions. Le suivi par les médecins généralistes est jugé difficile. Il existe une réticence d'une partie des médecins généralistes (MG) à prendre en charge ces patients, et une difficulté des patients à adhérer aux soins somatiques. Objectif Obtenir un consensus sur les difficultés prioritaires rencontrées par les médecins généralistes dans la pratique du suivi des patients schizophrènes. Méthode Une étude Delphi a été menée auprès de 29 médecins généralistes en France. Les problématiques ont été obtenues à partir d'une revue de la littérature. Au cours des trois tours, les participants ont évalué chaque problématique en fonction de sa pertinence dans leur pratique. Résultats Au terme des trois tours, 9 propositions ont atteint un consensus. Il s'agit de : «Ges-tion des addictions », «Accès à un avis psychiatrique diagnostique et thérapeutique, adressage pour suivi conjoint», «Informations sur l'hospitalisation: entrée, courrier de sortie, projet de suivi», «Contact avec le psychiatre référent : connaissance du psychiatre référent, communi-cation au cours du suivi »,« Prévention somatique »,« Surveillance somatique des traitements antipsychotiques »,« Gestion des urgences psychiatriques »,« Prise en charge sociale »et« Observance médicamenteuse ». Conclusion Cette étude nous a permis d'identifier les difficultés auxquelles sont confrontés les médecins généralistes dans leur suivi des patients schizophrènes. Les neuf problématiques identifiées serviront de support à la recherche de solutions à l'aide d'un groupe nominal pour l'élaboration d'un guide pratique.
