Book Synopsis Management of the Difficult and Failed Airway by :
Download or read book Management of the Difficult and Failed Airway written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Written by the founders of The Difficult Airway Course: Anesthesia and utilizing an instructive case-based approach, this text/DVD presents all of the leading-edge principles, tools, and procedures of airway assessment and management. The scope of the book encompasses the many airway devices that have been developed since the publication of the first edition, many of which have the potential to markedly enhance airway management. Extensively revised and updated, the second edition of Management of the Difficult and Failed Airway emphasizes how airway management is context-sensitive: included are strategies for treating patients in a range of settings, from prehospital care to the ER, as well as proven techniques for special patient populations. In addition, new chapters have been added to further refresh the book's content and provide you with a solid grasp of the most critical topics in this fast-evolving area. The book's effective organization has been maintained, beginning with the first section's focus on the basic foundations of difficult and failed airway management. The second section reviews must-know airway devices and techniques, while the third part of the text introduces case studies that thoroughly examine the application of these techniques in complex clinical situations. A final section covers the practical considerations, such as difficult airway carts and teaching and simulation in airway management."--Publisher description

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing all aspects of brain death and thoroughly detailing how a potential organ donor should be maintained to ensure maximum use of the organs and cells, The Brain-Dead Organ Donor: Pathophysiology and Management is a landmark addition to the literature. This first-of-its-kind, multidisciplinary volume will be of interest to a large section of the medical community. The first section of the book reviews the historical, medical, legal, and ethical aspects of brain death. That is followed by two chapters on the pathophysiology of brain death as investigated in small and large animal models. This includes a review of the many hormonal changes, including the neuroendocrine- adrenergic ‘storm’, that takes place during and following the induction of brain death, and how they impact metabolism. The next section of the book reviews various effects of brain death, namely its impact on thyroid function, the inflammatory response that develops, and those relating to innate immunity. The chapters relating to assessment and management of potential organ donors will be of interest to a very large group of transplant surgeons and physicians as well as critical care and neurocritical care physicians and nurses. Neurologists, endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, and pathologists will also be interested, especially in the more basic science sections on various aspects of brain-death and hormonal therapy. Organ procurement organizations and transplant coordinators worldwide will also be interested in this title. Other chapters will be of interest to medical historians, medico-legal experts, and ethicists.
Book Synopsis Medicine, Rationality and Experience by : Byron J. Good
Download or read book Medicine, Rationality and Experience written by Byron J. Good and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biomedicine is often thought to provide a scientific account of the human body and of illness. In this view, non-Western and folk medical systems are regarded as systems of 'belief' and subtly discounted. This is an impoverished perspective for understanding illness and healing across cultures, one that neglects many facets of Western medical practice and obscures its kinship with healing in other traditions. Drawing on his research in several American and Middle Eastern medical settings, in this 1993 book Professor Good develops a critical, anthropological account of medical knowledge and practice. He shows how physicians and healers enter and inhabit distinctive worlds of meaning and experience. He explores how stories or illness narratives are joined with bodily experience in shaping and responding to human suffering and argues that moral and aesthetic considerations are present in routine medical practice as in other forms of healing.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
