This book was released on 2005 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principles of Moral and Christian Philosophy presents the first masterpiece of Scottish Common Sense philosophy. This two-volume treatise is important for its wide range of insights about the nature of the human mind, the foundations of morals, and the relationship between morality and religion. The first volume presents a detailed study of the faculties of the human mind and their interrelations. The second volume presents arguments for the existence of God and for God's infinite perfection. The underlying notion is God's moral government of the world, in which there is recompense for good and evil deeds. George Turnbull (1698-1748) taught at Marischal College, Aberdeen. Alexander Broadie is Professor of Logic and Rhetoric at the University of Glasgow. Please note: This title is available as an ebook for purchase on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Religious Philosophy This is an introduction of the religious philosophy on which the author has been working for years, being based upon the mathematically essential relation between the Infinite and the finite. It breaks the barrier separating science from religion and establishes a firm foundation on which can rest securely all that is true and good and permanent in every system of philosophy and of religion. While this treatise is mostly argumentative and theoretical, the principles herein established can be applied practically, not only towards the attainment of man's ultimate goal of infinity and perfection, but also in the ordinary affairs and interests of daily life. The practical side of the subject, with other important theoretical details, will be presented in the future. Book Synopsis Philosophy of Religion by : Tim Bayne
Download or read book Philosophy of Religion written by Tim Bayne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the philosophy of religion? How can we distinguish it from theology on the one hand and the psychology/sociology of religious belief on the other? What does it mean to describe God as eternal? And should religious people want there to be good arguments for the existence of God, or is religious belief only authentic in the absence of these good arguments? In this Very Short Introduction Tim Bayne introduces the field of philosophy of religion, and engages with some of the most burning questions that philosophers discuss. Considering how religion should be defined, and whether we even need to be able to define it in order to engage in the philosophy of religion, he goes on to discuss whether the existence of God matters. Exploring the problem of evil, Bayne also debates the connection between faith and reason, and the related question of what role reason should play in religious contexts. Shedding light on the relationship between science and religion, Bayne finishes by considering the topics of reincarnation and the afterlife. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Religious Development: A Psychological and Philosophical Study The generous recognition accorded by well qualified critics to a former work by the author (Studies in the Philosophy of Religion, W. Blackwood and Sons, 1904) has encouraged him to submit to the public the further fruit of his studies in the same field. The present volume, despite its shortcomings, will perhaps help to draw attention to a point which has been somewhat overlooked by English writers. 1 mean the indispensable function of psychology in constructing a theory of religious development. The reader, however, is referred to the Introduction for an indication of the scope and purpose of the book. It is not easy, nor is it necessary, to state all one's intellectual obligations. In process of time a student finds he has learned much, the sources of which he can no longer clearly trace. But the instructed reader will perceive that, in philosophical matters, I have profited greatly by the study of Lotze. Among writers on religious philosophy I owe not a little to the late Prof. Psleiderer, whose lectures I was privileged to hear a good many years ago, and who first stimulated my interest in the subject. Prof. H. Siebeck's Religionsphilosophie I have also found very suggestive. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Middle Way Philosophy written by Robert M. Ellis and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A departure at right angles to thinking in the modern Western world. An important, original work, that should get the widest possible hearing" (Iain McGilchrist, author of The Master and his Emissary) Middle Way Philosophy is not about compromise, but about the avoidance of dogma and the integration of conflicting assumptions. To rely on experience as our guide, we need to avoid the interpretation of experience through unnecessary dogmas. Drawing on a range of influences in Buddhist practice, Western philosophy and psychology, Middle Way Philosophy questions alike the assumptions of scientific naturalism, religious revelation and political absolutism, trying to separate what addresses experience in these doctrines from what is merely assumed. This Omnibus edition of Middle Way Philosophy includes all four of the volumes previously published separately: 1. The Path of Objectivity, 2. The Integration of Desire, 3. The Integration of Meaning, and 4. The Integration of Belief.
