Book Synopsis Principles of Plant-Microbe Interactions by : Ben Lugtenberg
Download or read book Principles of Plant-Microbe Interactions written by Ben Lugtenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-04 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of microbial plant protection products is growing and their importance will strongly increase due to political and public pressure. World population is growing and the amount of food needed by 2050 will be double of what is produced now whereas the area of agricultural land is decreasing. We must increase crop yield in a sustainable way. Chemical plant growth promoters must be replaced by microbiological products. Also here, the use of microbial products is growing and their importance will strongly increase. A growing area of agricultural land is salinated. Global warming will increase this process. Plants growth is inhibited by salt or even made impossible and farmers tend to disuse the most salinated lands. Microbes have been very successfully used to alleviate salt stress of plants. Chemical pollution of land can make plant growth difficult and crops grown are often polluted and not suitable for consumption. Microbes have been used to degrade these chemical pollutants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Principles of Plant Science: Environmental Factors and Technology in Growing Plants" is a unique text ideally suited for use in any introductory Plant Science or Horticulture course as well as courses in Plant Growth and Development or introductory Applied Plant Physiology. An overview of the plant sciences--including the role of plants in the development of societies, industries, and science--provides essential background information and an emphasis on non-forest agricultural crops in chapters 1 through 4. A primer on plant growth and development (chapters 5 through 8) follows, with coverage of photosynthesis and respiration, plant hormones, and ecology. The influence of the environment on agricultural plant production constitutes the remainder of the material (Chapters 9 through 20) and is the primary emphasis of the text. This emphasis on the scientific principles associated with effects of environmental factors on plant development is designed to also equip readers to better understand current and emerging technologies that modify the environment for improving plant production.
Download or read book Basic Growth Analysis written by R. Hunt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is intended as an introductory guide to students at all levels on the principles and practice of plant growth analysis. Many have found this quantitative approach to be useful in the description and interpretation of the performance of whole plant systems grown under natural, semi-natural or controlled conditions. Most of the methods described require only simple experimental data and facilities. For the classical approach, GCSE biology and mathematics (or their equivalents) are the only theoretical backgrounds required. For the functional approach, a little calculus and statistical theory is needed. All of the topics regarding the quantitative basis of productivity recently introduced to the Biology A-level syllabus by the Joint Matriculation Board are covered. The booklet replaces my elementary Plant Growth Analysis (1978, London: Edward Arnold) which is now out of print. The presentation is very basic indeed; the opening pages give only essential outlines of the main issues. They are followed by brief, standardized accounts of each growth-analytical concept taken in turn. The illustrations deal more with the properties of well-grown material than with the effects of specific environmental changes, even though that is where much of the subject's interest lies. However, detailed references to the relevant parts of more com prehensive works appear throughout, and a later section on 'Inter relations' adds perspective. Some 'Questions and answers' may also help to show what topics will arise if the subject is pursued further.

Book Synopsis Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology by : Donald Kaplan
Download or read book Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology written by Donald Kaplan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-02 with total page 2888 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kaplan's Principles of Plant Morphology defines the field of plant morphology, providing resources, examples, and theoretical constructs that illuminate the foundations of plant morphology and clearly outline the importance of integrating a fundamental understanding of plant morphology into modern research in plant genetics, development, and physiology. As research on developmental genetics and plant evolution emerges, an understanding of plant morphology is essential to interpret developmental and morphological data. The principles of plant morphology are being brought into studies of crop development, biodiversity, and evolution during climate change, and increasingly such researchers are turning to old texts to uncover information about historic research on plant morphology. Hence, there is great need for a modern reference and textbook that highlights past studies and provides the synthesis of data necessary to drive our future research in plant morphological and developmental evolution. Key Features Numerous illustrations demonstrating the principles of plant morphology Historical context for interpretations of more recent genetic data Firmly rooted in the principles of studying plant form and function Provides evolutionary framework without relying on evolutionary interpretations for plant form Only synthetic treatment of plant morphology on the market Related Titles Les, D.
