The Triumph of the Water Witch is her lament for the loss of that once thriving community which had survived for eight centuries before being destroyed in four decades through the imposition of Soviet-style communism. Written against the background of the bleak, restrictive climate of Romania under Ceausescu, these are poems which Ioana Ieronim never expected to see published.
