Book excerpt: Los accidentes son la primera causa de muerte en la poblacion pediatrica, siendo el grupo entre 10 a 14 anos, la poblacion de ninos con mayor tasa de accidentabilidad. Los accidentes escolares ocurren, en su mayoria dentro del establecimiento escolar y es el profesor la primera persona que tiene acceso y puede intervenir. Actualmente no existe a nivel ministerial programas de capacitacion sobre primeros auxilios dirigidos a profesores, por esto surge la motivacion de realizar un estudio en el area de Educacion en Salud, siguiendo la linea de investigacion en Enfermeria y Salud escolar; donde el quehacer de Enfermeria tiene un rol fundamental en: prevencion de accidentes y capacitacion en primeros auxilios. Asi se planteo la interrogante: "+Cual es el grado de conocimiento de los profesores basicos sobre primeros auxilios en traumatismos del aparato locomotor?". Se selecciono una muestra al azar de 301 profesores jefes de cursos entre 4[vbar] y 8[vbar] ano basico que trabajan en colegios municipalizados y subencionados de la Provincia de Santiago, durante los meses de abril y mayo de 1998, en 69 colegios de la provincia de Santiago. Al analizar los datos obtenidos, concluimos que los profesores de Educacion Basica de la provincia de Santiago, tienen un grado de conocimiento regular sobre primeros auxilios en traumatismos del aparato locomotor y refieren la gran necesidad de ser capacitados en este tema. Es por esta razon que consideramos primordial la implementacion de un programa educativo sobre primeros auxilios dirigido a profesores de educacion basica principalmente, de colegios municipalizados y subvencionados. Dejamos la propuesta de un gran proyecto, en donde la enfermera cumple un rol protagonico (AU).
