Sample Book Insights: #1 The partners of people with bipolar disorder are very similar. You are the one who stays in the relationship instead of walking away. You are the main caretaker. When your partner is ill, you take care of the house, the finances, and the children while having to hold your fear inside. #2 The goal of this book is to help you find the right balance between understanding and helping your partner so that you are still able to pursue your own goals and dreams. You will learn how to change what isn’t working into something that does. #3 holistic treatment for bipolar disorder focuses on medications, but it is also known that many people with bipolar disorder can achieve stability once they have a treatment plan that helps them prevent the symptoms that characterize the disorder. #4 Loving someone with bipolar disorder is not a diagnosis, but it is important to understand that your partner has a mental illness that requires treatment. It is important that your partner is evaluated by a mental health professional who specializes in treating severe mental illnesses.
Book Synopsis Gay Girl, Good God by : Jackie Hill Perry
Download or read book Gay Girl, Good God written by Jackie Hill Perry and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.
Download or read book Family Men written by Laura King and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fathers are often neglected in histories of family life in Britain. Family Men provides the first academic study of fathers and families in the period from the First World War to the end of the 1950s. It takes a thematic approach, examining different aspects of fatherhood, from the duties it encompassed to the ways in which it related to men's identities. The historical approach is socio-cultural: each chapter examines a wide range of historical source materials in order to analyse both cultural representations of fatherhood and related social norms, as well as exploring the practices and experiences of individuals and families. It uncovers the debates surrounding parenting and family life and tells the stories of men and their children. While many historians have examined men's relationship to the home and family in histories of gender, family life, domestic spaces, and class cultures more generally, few have specifically examined fathers as crucial family members, as historical actors, and as emotional individuals. The history of fatherhood is extremely significant to contemporary debate: assumptions about fatherhood in the past are constantly used to support arguments about the state of fatherhood today and the need for change or otherwise in the future. Laura King charts men's changing experiences of fatherhood, suggesting that although the roles and responsibilities fulfilled by men did not shift rapidly, their relationships, position in the family, and identities underwent significant change between the start of the First World War and the 1960s.

Book excerpt: Preston loved to play with all his toys when he was a little boy; he always wore his helmet when he rode on anything. I wrote this book to educate children about helmet safety and how the brain needs to be protected because it controls our body and helps us learn new things. Did you know that someone in the U.S. suffers a brain injury every 9 seconds? Preston fell while riding a skateboard and injured his brain. He will always need a caregiver to take care of him and for those around him to move him from his bed to his wheel chair. He has had hundreds of hours of therapy and can now make some sounds, but mostly communicates with his eyes and facial expressions. Preston is a fighter and is very determined to get better. His fundraising T-Shirt says, "the force is strong with this one" and it is so perfect for our Star Wars lover. My hope is that this book encourages your loved ones to be safe and to wear helmets when they are riding on anything that makes them go. Every March is Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month please use this book to educate others about some ways to prevent TBI's. Slow down, play safe, and wear a helmet.

Book Synopsis Affection and Estrangement: a Southern Family Memoir by : Preston M. Browning Jr.
Download or read book Affection and Estrangement: a Southern Family Memoir written by Preston M. Browning Jr. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-10-30 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preston Browning Jr. entered the world in 1929, a few months before the Crash and the onset of the Great Depression. In Culpeper, Virginia, Browning grew up amid the pervasive poverty of the times where he recalls being labeled by his father as the worlds worst grouch, led in song by Miss Lizzy Lovellwho banged on the piano at the local Episcopal church, and seated astride a cow who needed a lot of convincing to take him for a ride around the pasture beyond his house. With humor and exceptional detail, Browning shares a lively memoir that focuses on his coming-of-age journey and subsequent experiences in the rural South during the 1930s and 1940s, providing a compelling glimpse into how his family and others helped shape his emerging sense of self, his convictions, and his character. While providing snippets about the era and sketches of more than twenty relatives and ancestors that include an amusing retelling about his Uncle Sweets experiences at a hoochie-coochie show, Browning details the fascinating legacy of his Southern upbringing during a time when a struggle for racial, economic, and social justice prevailed in America. In this inspiring memoir, a Southerner reminisces about small-town Virginia before, during, and after the Great Depression through entertaining stories about his unconventional ancestors, his immediate family, and his own experiences.

You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Even if he found the answers, would Danny ever be allowed his Freedom?
