Book Synopsis Pipelines 2011 by : American Society of Civil Engineers
Download or read book Pipelines 2011 written by American Society of Civil Engineers and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 1500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the Pipelines 2011 Conference, held in Seattle, Washington, July 23-27, 2011. Sponsored by the Pipeline Division of ASCE. This collection contains 135 peer-reviewed technical papers that discuss new solutions to some of the most critical infrastructure issues involving pipelines. The U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure systems are continuing to deteriorate. The recent economic downturn has increased the gap between current and required levels of funding. These serious financial constraints highlight the urgent need for creative and innovative solutions to improve our water and wastewater infrastructure systems. From the technical perspective, cost effective materials, proper planning, new design methods, innovative construction technologies, and advanced condition assessment technologies must be more aggressively developed, tested, and introduced to the industry. From the management perspective, optimal use of financial resources, smart and carefully crafted decision making processes on maintenance, rehabilitation and replacement activities must be made available, applied by and used by water and wastewater infrastructure agencies.

Book Synopsis Flotation Technology by : Lawrence K. Wang
Download or read book Flotation Technology written by Lawrence K. Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-09 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past 30 years have seen the emergence of a growing desire worldwide that positive actions be taken to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollution – air, water, soil, and noise. Since pollution is a direct or indirect consequence of waste, the seemingly idealistic demand for “zero discharge” can be construed as an unreal- tic demand for zero waste. However, as long as waste continues to exist, we can only attempt to abate the subsequent pollution by converting it to a less noxious form. Three major questions usually arise when a particular type of pollution has been identi?ed: (1) How serious is the pollution? (2) Is the technology to abate it available? and (3) Do the costs of abatement justify the degree of abatement achieved? This book is one of the volumes of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series. The principal intention of this series is to help readers formulate answers to the last two questions above. The traditional approach of applying tried-and-true solutions to speci?c pollution p- blems has been a major contributing factor to the success of environmental engineering and has accounted in large measure for the establishment of a “methodology of pollution control. ” However, the realization of the ever-increasing complexity and interrelated nature of current environmental problems renders it imperative that intelligent planning of pollution abatement systems be undertaken.

Book Synopsis Water-Wise Cities and Sustainable Water Systems by : Xiaochang C. Wang
Download or read book Water-Wise Cities and Sustainable Water Systems written by Xiaochang C. Wang and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-15 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building water-wise cities is a pressing need nowadays in both developed and developing countries. This is mainly due to the limitation of the available water resources and aging infrastructure to meet the needs of adapting to social and environmental changes and for urban liveability. This is the first book to provide comprehensive insights into theoretical, systematic, and engineering aspects of water-wise cities with a broad coverage of global issues. The book aims to (1) provide a theoretical framework of water-wise cities and associated sustainable water systems including key concepts and principles, (2) provide a brand-new thinking on the design and management of sustainable urban water systems of various scales towards a paradigm shift under the resource and environmental constraints, and (3) provide a technological perspective with successful case studies of technology selection, integration, and optimization on the “fit-for-purpose” basis.
