Book Synopsis Christ, Precious to Those Who Believe by : John Fawcett
Download or read book Christ, Precious to Those Who Believe written by John Fawcett and published by . This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject to which the reader's attention is invited in these pages is of the highest importance; since love to the divine Redeemer is the distinguishing characteristic of a real Christian, and most indispensably requirement in order to our serving God acceptably in this world, and to our dwelling with him in the next world. Without a sincere and loving attachment to the Author of eternal salvation, whatever works of morality we may perform, our obedience will be materially and essentially defective, as not flowing from a proper principle. Love is the parent and promoter of everything excellent and amiable in the Christian character. It diffuses itself through the whole train of holy actions. It gives them all their motion, and dignifies them with all their real value. The eloquence of men, or even of angels, the gift of prophecy, the knowledge of all mysteries, the power to work miracles, the most extensive liberality to the poor, and even the suffering of martyrdom, are all insignificant and unprofitable without love to Jesus.

Dr. Blake R. Heffner Rejoice in the spiritual blessings of God! I was silenced, in shock, as we descended those stairs; my pastor quietly quoted our Lord Jesus, Whatever you did for one of the least of these you do for me (Matt. 25:40). I stopped in my trackslooked back up at that apartmentI saw Jesus sitting next to Phoebe with His arm around her. That day changed my life! That verse from our Lord is at the core of who I am today and what I have believed every day for the past thirty-five years as a Christian; so shall it always be. Jesus has been right by my side, giving me His words. How blessed we are to have living words from Him! This faith discussion is a collection of reflections, sermons and meditations we will share as we journey together exploring the spiritual blessings of our faith.

Book Synopsis Lies We Believe About God by : Wm. Paul Young
Download or read book Lies We Believe About God written by Wm. Paul Young and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love. In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love. Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false. Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.

Book Synopsis The Cost of Cheap Grace by : Bill Hull
Download or read book The Cost of Cheap Grace written by Bill Hull and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a Christian? At the most basic level, a Christian is a disciple of Jesus Christ. And yet many Christians today couldn’t tell you what a disciple of Jesus Christ is, or would even think of themselves as disciples. And yet in the Great Commission, Jesus specifically called us to make disciples. Everything else is secondary. The Cost of Cheap Grace is an extended, sweeping, bold, and bracing call to repentance for where we’ve let secondary things subvert our commitment to discipleship, and a compelling vision for discipleship as the basis of the gospel in all its world-changing, subversive power.

This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Yes, He is very precious to you who believe!" 1 Peter 2:7 Love is the parent and promoter of everything excellent and amiable in the Christian character. He who loved us so as to give himself a ransom for our souls, who was lifted up upon the ignominious cross, that he might draw all men unto himself, proposes to those who profess to be his disciples, the solemn and important inquiry, "Do you love me?" He values not our service--if the heart is not in it. He knows what is in man; he sees and judges the heart, and has no regard to outward acts of obedience, if no devout affection is employed in them. It is not enough for the eye to be lifted up to him, or the knee to bow before him; it is not enough for the tongue to be employed in speaking of him, or the hand in acting for his interest in the world. All this may be done by those whose religion is mere pretense! But the heart with all the inward powers and passions of the soul, must, in the first place, be given to him. "Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity;" and as the natural consequence of that, keep his commandments.
