Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique look at Christian biblical interpretation and theology from the perspective of Native American tradition. This book focuses on four specific experiences of Jesus as portrayed in the synoptic gospels. It examines each story as a “vision quest,” a universal spiritual phenomenon, but one of particular importance within North American indigenous communities. Jesus’ experience in the wilderness is the first quest. It speaks to a foundational Native American value: the need to enter into the “we” rather than the “I.” The Transfiguration is the second quest, describing the Native theology of transcendent spirituality that impacts reality and shapes mission. Gethsemane is the third quest. It embodies the Native tradition of the holy men or women, who find their freedom through discipline and concerns for justice, compassion, and human dignity. Golgotha is the final quest. It represents the Native sacrament of sacrifice (e.g., the Sun Dance). The chapter on Golgotha is a discussion of kinship, balance, and harmony: all primary to Native tradition and integral to Christian thought.

Joachim Tierney, O.C.S.O., instilled in the author his desire to discover the mystery of the visions and revelations of the Lord that St. Paul was shown when he was caught up into the third Heaven, paradise, as seen in 2 Corinthians 12:1-7. What they uncovered in their quest for this hidden knowledge is that St. Paul was shown the great mystery of Christ's Second Coming. And that this extraordinary mystery, now being revealed, is St. Paul's Gospel yet to be preached by the Church. St. Paul writes: "Now to him that is able to establish you according to 'my gospel' and the preaching of Jesus Christ according to 'the revelation of the mystery, ' which was kept secret from eternity, which 'now' is made manifest by the scriptures of the prophets..." (Romans 16:25-26) This secret mystery, the preaching of Jesus Christ according to St. Paul's gospel, is woven throughout St. Paul's letters. In fact, the word "mystery" is seen eighteen times in his epistles, whereas in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John the word mystery can be found just once, or not at all depending on which version of the Bible. This great mystery veiled in his letters is what has made them, until now, difficult to understand. A key was needed to unlock this powerful gift of knowledge. In his letter to the Colossians 4:3-6, St. Paul requests prayers that "a door of speech to speak the mystery of Christ" be opened by God. The key opening the door to the preaching of this glorious mystery of Christ is now being manifested in this prophetic unveiling of Sacred Scripture.

Book excerpt: The Holy Eucharist has nourished the Faith of Catholics for centuries -- but it’s all too easy to let routine dull your sense of the transforming power of this sacrament. This book will stir the embers of your love for the Eucharist into a bright glowing flame. In it, Fr. John A. Kane explores the selfless humility shown by Christ in His presence in the Eucharist, opening the way for you to receive greater spiritual fruit from worthier receptions of Communion and from adoration of Christ in the Eucharist. You’ll learn how the Eucharist is truly a sacrament of love — a sacrament that not only demonstrates Christ’s love for you, but gives you the grace you need to love God and your neighbor with a fervor unquenched by passing changes in fortune or feelings. As Fr. Kane opens your eyes to how much God longs to be with you in the Eucharist — and how much He delights in you — you’ll come to experience the Eucharist as that inexhaustible source of grace, peace, and comfort that He intends it to be for you. Discover from Fr. John Kane: Christ’s silent and secret work in your soul: how you can aid Him in His work through the Eucharist Receiving Communion: how to make your communions dynamic encounters with Jesus Christ’s Presence in the Eucharist: how it can nourish your soul even though it’s beyond earthly understanding Two obstacles to gaining spiritual fruit from Communion: how to recognize and overcome them Why it’s so important for you to spend time in thanksgiving after Communion And much more that will help you know Christ in the Eucharist and love Him more than ever! “Easily accessible to all — catechist, convert, priest, and laity. Fr. Kane shows us the mystery of the Eucharist in a thousand different ways.” Fr. Romanus Cessario

Book excerpt: This particular work by Gifford contains six pieces now updated into current modern print. The first work is worth the cost of the volume itself. It is his treatise on The Great Mystery of God’s Providence, on Genesis 45:8, concerning the historical narrative of Joseph coming to power in Egypt by God’s providence. He particularly deals with the question, “To what degree does the holy and righteous God make use of the evil actions of wicked men and devils, without any impeachment of his righteousness and holiness?” This is a wonderful and masterful treatise that will expand your view of the great mystery of God’s providence in the world, not only in Joseph’s time, but throughout all of redemptive history, including our own time. In his second piece, he covers James 2:26, “…so faith without works is dead,” while comparing both Paul’s use of justification by faith, and James’ use of justification by works. In his third sermon on James 3, he covers the manner in which the Christian’s speech ought to glorify God, and how, very often, that it does not. This is especially proven out by dealing with Christians in the church, where out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. In his fourth piece, he demonstrates the need and virtue of true fortitude to the glory of God. In this, he considers the strength and vigor of the Christian in all they do in zeal for the glory of Christ. In his fifth piece on Psalm 133:1 he covers the need and commendation of unity in the church, the unity of the Spirit, in the bond of peace, as set down by David in the Psalm, and echoed in Ephesians by Paul. His final piece is an explanation of the parable of the sower from Matt. 13:1-9, teaching that in the innumerable multitude that came to hear Christ’s heavenly doctrine, the Savior shows that out of this great number of people that were so zealous and traveled so far, there were three groups out of four that did not profit by his teaching and were therefore still creatures under damnation. Only one group of the four were true hearers. In all these works Gifford is very easy to read, yet, exegetically sound and practically deep.
