Download or read book Prayer Matters written by Marilyn Wragg and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered how prayer works? Have you ever wished you were better at praying? Have you ever been at a loss for words to pray? This is not a book that attempts to answer all your questions on prayer. On the contrary, the author acknowledges upfront that prayer is a mystery for which there is no magic formula. There are Biblical principles that teach much about prayer, and God's spiritual spokespersons have offered insight. But God is God, and prayer is in the realm of His unfathomable ways and workings. Rather, this is a book that invites you to come alongside the author and delve into the practice of prayer. It contains reflections on varied prayer matters that are based on exploring principles about prayer and trying various ways to pray. It is the fruit of the author's entreating God to teach her to pray. Since much of this entreating occurred while walking with her son through his cancer battle and now as she grieves his passing, the author's insights are presented as one questioning pilgrim desiring to help another. The book's premise is that we do not have to understand prayer to pray. We learn to pray by praying. The more we pray, the more natural praying therefore becomes. Hence, suggestions and tools are offered to facilitate praying. Whether you are relatively experienced with prayer, brand new, or somewhere in between, you are invited to ponder these prayer matters and to implement those suggestions for "doing prayer" that appeal to you. Because, ultimately, while we may not know the intricate workings of prayer this side of Heaven, one thing we do know is... Prayer Matters!

Respected professor, speaker, and pastor Dr. Chuck Lawless explores the power of a praying church and how it can transform your ministry. Through prayer, we have access to the all-powerful living God. Even so, too many of us are tempted to start our days prayerless and feeling alone. How can this be? We can't afford to be so negligent, because whether we realize it or not we all face a high-stakes spiritual battle when we step out into our communities. In The Potential and Power of Prayer, Chuck Lawless illustrates how churches need to take prayer seriously in order to grow; explores how Jesus and the early church depended on God through prayer; explains how prayer is essential to preparing for spiritual battles; and guides church leaders in establishing the priority of prayer and a thriving prayer ministry in their churches. God chooses to move among Christians who humbly come to him in prayer; who depend on him for strength and guidance.

This book was released on 1990-07-05 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of women's spirituality and Christian mysticism demonstrates that women have been influential religious leaders even without benefit of priestly ordination and theological training. St. Catherine of Siena and St. Teresa of Avila are examples of women with visionary gifts of tremendous power. A less well-known Spanish visionary is Sor María of Santo Domingo, a Dominican tertiary of peasant lineage who became so famous for her raptures, austerities, and prophecies that the king, a cardinal, and nobles considered her a living saint. In 1948 research in the archives of the University of Zaragoza uncovered The Book of Prayer of Sor María of Santo Domingo (originally published around 1518) which had gone unnoticed for centuries. The text includes some of Sor María's ecstatic utterances and representations, and is a first-hand look at a women who in many ways is as representative of the early years of sixteenth century Spain as St. Teresa was of the later years. Giles' book provides the first English translation of this text as well as a study of Sor María and the issues that pushed her into the limelight.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What the world most needs today is prayer. It is prayer that will give birth to all the renewals, healings, deep and fruitful transformations we all want for society today.... I am more and more convinced that everything comes from prayer and that, among the calls of the Spirit, this is the first and most urgent one we should respond to." Many have already benefited from Fr. Jacques’ best-selling book on prayer, Time for God. In Thirsting for Prayer, Fr. Jacques revisits some of the themes covered in that book and develops new insights that are both profound and practical. These reflections guide us with simplicity on the path to intimacy with God, helping us to develop an actual taste for personal prayer. Download or read book You can pray written by Tim Chester and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you're easily distracted when praying, you're not alone. In fact, if you struggle to pray in the first place, that's not unusual either. Tim Chester tells us how we can be great pray-ers. And he admits that that's a really bold claim. 'The secret of great praying has nothing to do with human effort or skill,' he explains. 'Lots of people would like to think that it does because they want to make prayer an achievement.' But the secret of great praying is ... Knowing three things about God: +That God the Father loves to hear us pray +That God the Son makes every prayer pleasing to God +That God the Holy Spirit helps us as we pray Tim looks at: why prayer is easy (how we pray), why prayer is difficult (why we pray) and the arguments and priorities of prayer (what we pray). Prayer is a child asking her father for help. And that's not beyond any one of us.
Book Synopsis The Phoenix Affirmations by : Eric Elnes
Download or read book The Phoenix Affirmations written by Eric Elnes and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-04-07 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Phoenix Affirmations, named for the town in which the principles were created and the mythological bird adopted by ancient Christians as a symbol of resurrection, offers disillusioned and spiritually homeless Christians and others a sense of hope and a more tolerant, joyful, and compassionate message than those we often hear from the media and some Christian leaders. These twelve central affirmative principles of Christian faith are built on the three great loves that the Bible reveals: love of God, love of neighbor, and love of self. They reflect commitments to environmental stewardship, social justice, and artistic expression as well as openness to other faiths. Transcending theological and culture wars, inclusive and generous in spirit and practice, these principles ask believers and seekers alike to affirm their Christian faith in a fresh way.
