Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Bonne lecture. Y. Ville.

Each chapter is highly structured, with learning objectives, definitions, aetiology, clinical features, investigations, treatments, case histories and key point summaries and additional reading where appropriate. New themes for this edition include 'professionalism' and 'global health' and information specific to both areas is threaded throughout the text. Along with its companion Gynaecology by Ten Teachers the book will continue to provide an accessible 'one stop shop' in obstetrics and gynaecology for a new generation of doctors.

Book excerpt: This volume explains how sonography is now used to explore all aspects of ovarian structure, physiology and disease. the ovary is perhaps the most active organ in the female body, and as such is particularly complex in its embrology, histology and steroidogenesis. It is derived from a range of tissue types, and represents the site of origin of a larger variety of primary and secondary cancers than any other organ. Because of this complexity, the use of diagnostic ultrasound is becoming increasingly important, not only in expanding the understanding of the ovary, but in enhancing the potential for early diagnosis of ovarian tumours.

Book excerpt: The 54th RCOG Study Group brought together a range of experts from across many disciplines to examine the most up-to-date evidence on all aspects of diagnosis and management in women with renal problems before, during and after pregnancy. This book presents the findings of the Study Group, describing many of the issues likely to be faced in clinical practice and providing valuable information for all healthcare professionals working in this field. General principles for optimal management are clearly defined and separate chapters are devoted to specific disease entities and/or clinical situations. Many controversial areas - such as management of hypertension, diagnosis of pre-eclampsia, assisted conception, rationalisation of the many medications used in nephrology practice, renal biopsy, surgical emergencies, patient input and responsibilities - are carefully considered.
