Para a connstrução deste trabalho, lancei mão da observação direta e assistemática, realizada nas unidades que recebiam doentes mentais nos campos de pesquisa Também utilizei-me de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, com 20 pacientes psiquiátricos hospitalizados nas referidas unidades, no período em que acompanhei as atividades nestes locais. Muitos dados foram obtidos durante a observação e nas falas dos sujeitos, os quais contribuíram na elaboração da análise deste trabalho. A partir da pluralidade das informações contidas no depoimento dos atores sociais envolvidos no estudo, quatro grandes temáticas afloraram, com um núcleo de pensamento semelhante: a experiência de internação e permanência no hospital; a assistência prestada ao doente mental em hospital geral na ótica do paciente; internações anteriores em hospitais gerais e hospitais psiquiátricos: experiências anteriores; as atividades realizadas no transcorrer da internação em hospital geral. O estudo pode contribuir com as reflexões sobre novas formas de assistir a pessoa em sofrimento mental, tendo em vista os propósitos da Reforma Psiquiátrica.

This book can assist organizations and individuals as they encounter workplace stress. This edition highlights research done by 25 authors across 12 chapters that challenges how work stress is viewed and assessed. Additionally, a number of social and psychological influences on the stress experience are examined. Our beliefs and expectations of stress and its results, whether helpful or hurtful, can have a profound influence on our stress experiences. Also, the way that we approach our work (e.g., job crafting) or the treatment we receive from others (e.g., with dignity) can either mitigate or exacerbate any harmful or beneficial effects of stress. In the early 1980s, there were about 80 thousand people admitted to psychiatric hospitals in Brazil, with average lengths of hospital stay of approximately 25 years. The psychiatric reform process that took place in the country was responsible for closing more than 60 thousand beds in mental asylums, most of them characterized by conditions of violence and abandonment. The Brazilian Psychiatric Reform was inspired by the psychosocial care model introduced by psychiatrist Franco Basaglia in Italy and was marked by the broad participation of social movements, such as the anti-asylum movement and other human rights movements. This process gave rise to a model of mental health care based on open-door territorial mental health services, guided by the principle of treatment in liberty, in addition to other strategies of deinstitutionalization. More than a proposal to restructure or modernize the mental health care model, the objective of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform was the construction of a new social place for the diverse and singular subjective experience of madness. By intending to produce new imaginaries, new social representations and new meanings for these experiences, the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform led to one of the larger experiences of deinstitutionalization in the world and to the large scale implementation of a new model of mental health care in which the old asylum-centric paradigm was replaced by a new democratic psychosocial care model.
