Book excerpt: "Las empresas invierten significativamente tiempo y esfuerzos en los programas de capacitación para el desarrollo de los recursos humanos. Sin embargo, estudios señalan que muy pocas empresas evalúan, de manera sistemática, los resultados de estos programas. El propósito de este estudio investigativo es describir las prácticas y los usos de la evaluación de los programas de capacitación de los recursos humanos en el sector privado de la manufactura en Puerto Rico. Además, busca determinar si existe alguna relación entre el uso de la evaluación del retorno sobre la inversión (ROI) y las características demográficas de las empresas, así como identificar las barreras o las limitaciones del uso de la evaluación en los programas de capacitación. Trescientos cincuenta y seis (356) gerentes de recursos humanos, y miembros de la Asociación de Insdurstriales de Puerto Rico (AIPR) fue la población seleccionada para el estudio. De éstos, 161 respondieron al estudio, para la obtención de una tasa de respuesta del 45.2%. Se usó un cuestionario como recurso o herramienta metodológica para la recopilación de los datos examinados. Se emplearon estadísticas descriptivas, así como la prueba Chi cuadrada, para el análisis de los datos obtenidos. Los resultados de la investigación desmuestran que las empresas de la manufactura consideradas no cuentan con un método aceptado generalmente para evaluar los programas de capacitación. Se encontró que las empresas evalúan predominantemente los programas de capacitación en el nivel 1 (reacción) y en el nivel 2 (aprendizaje) de evaluación. Este hallazgo confirma los estudios realizados previamente. Sólo un 5.6% de las empresas evalúan el retorno sobre la inversión en los programas de capacitación. No se encontró una relación significativa entre el uso de este nivel de evaluación y las características de las empresas estudiadas. Las tres barreras más significativas para evaluar los programas de capacitación son:"no es requerida por la empresa"; "desconocimiento del proceso o método de evaluación"; y "costo del proceso/capital". Este hallazgo es similar a la literatura revisada, así como lo confirman los estudios previos citados e investigadosl Finalmente, los resultados del estudio demuestran que existe una relación positiva significativa entre la atribución del valor del uso de la evaluación en los programas de capacitación y los factores de éxito organizacional. De éstos, los más significativos son: la calidad del producto; la productividad; y los accidentes en el trabajo. La litertura, así como los estudios previos considierados, sugieren que a medida en que la rendición de cuentas sea requerida por la empresa, el uso de la evaluación de los programas de capacitación irá en aumento. Las conclusiones del estudio se plantean según las preguntas trazadas para la investigación, y los resultados obtenidos. Se presenta un análisis de las implicaciones de los hallazgos, así como también se exponen las recomendaciones de las aplicaciones prácticas, y las deseabilidades de investigaciones futuras". -- leave 1-2.
